Tässä raportissa tarkastellaan Kansallisen koulutuksen arviointikeskuksen (Karvin) toteuttaman kansallisen arvioinnin tuloksia perusopetukseen valmistavan opetuksen ja oppilaan oman äidinkielen opetuksen tilasta ja vaikuttavuudesta. Arviointi kohdistuu erityisesti opetuksen tavoitteiden toteutumiseen ja opetuksen järjestämistapoihin. Lisäksi selvitetään opetusta ja oppimista edistäviä ja estäviä tekijöitä. Arviointi tuottaa tietoa hallituksen Oikeus oppia -kehittämisohjelmaan. Ohjelman tavoitteena on laatia toimenpiteitä, joilla turvataan maahanmuuttotaustaisten lasten ja nuorten oppimisedellytykset ja koulutussiirtymät etenkin koulutuksen nivelvaiheissa. Success of integration depends, amongst other things, on immigrants’ involvement in the host country’s education. Educational differences between home and host countries can either promote or hinder academic progress of immigrants and, consequently, overall process of their integration. The paper focuses on the ?unexpected pathways? of successful students with an immigrant background: these biographical routes, that seems socially impossible, raise theoretical issues around the individual-society, actor-structure relationship. Disadvantaged students who succeed represent a sociological challenge in the attempt to understand atypical situations and to identify the institutional processes and the structural opportunities that facilitate them, reducing ethnic inequalities in education.
