Difference temperature-to-time electronic interface based on a thermistor-to-generalized impedance converter

2010

Abstract In this work a difference temperature-to-time converter is shown using two thermistors working in a DC generalized impedance converter. Voltage drop in one of the thermistors depends on the temperature difference between them. This voltage is compared with a time varying exponential reference voltage obtaining a time interval at the output circuit with good linear dependence with respect to the input temperature difference. Experimental results are obtained showing a new generalized impedance converter application. The implemented circuit was characterized by a repeatability of 1.0%, a reproducibility of 4.5% and a relative accuracy of 1.3%.

Design and Characterization of a New MV PLC Coupler for Smart Electric Energy Systems

2018

This paper deals with the design, modeling and characterization of a new coupling system for medium voltage (MV) narrow band power line communications (NB-PLC). It exploits the capacitive divider of voltage detecting systems (VDSs) normally used to reveal the mains voltage presence, thus avoiding the use of dedicated MV couplers. The proposed coupling system was patented by the authors. In this paper, the modeling of the VDS capacitive divider is presented, using a proper characterization method. Moreover, the interface card design is described, based on simulation of the whole PLC transmission channel. Laboratory tests are also presented and discussed. More in detail, a frequency response …

Polymer dynamics in thin p-type conducting films investigated by ac-electrogravimetry. Kinetics aspects on anion exclusion, free solvent transfer, an…

2015

A new transfer model is proposed to explain ac-electrogravimetry response of p-doped films. This model takes into account the exclusion effect occurring as a result of the anion transfer. The insertion/expulsion of anions inside a film involves simultaneously the expulsion/insertion of free solvent molecules. The number of solvent molecules excluded depends on the volume of anion transferred. Solvent transfer stimulated by the conformational changes of films constitutes the remaining electrogravimetric response when the exclusion process cannot explain by itself this response. Consequently, the kinetics of this free solvent transfer can be directly related to the kinetics of conformational …

A method for the investigation of high-order two-frequency asynchronous oscillators

1992

A general method for analysing asynchronous high-order two-frequency oscillators is presented. the oscillator model is made up of a GC non-linear parallel group embedded in a linear lumped time-invariant network of any order. the approach devised rests on the identification of a pair of narrow-band impedance operators which permit one to derive first-approximation steady state and dynamic equations in the phasor domain—as well as stability criteria—in a simple and expressive manner. Previous results from averaging and perturbation treatments on fourth-order asynchronous oscillators are shown to be obtainable from this theory as particular cases. the sixth-order oscillator chosen as an appli…

Neighborhood built environment and socio-economic status in relation to multiple health outcomes in adolescents.

2017

Abstract The study aim was to examine associations of neighborhood built environment and neighborhood socio-economic status (SES) with multiple physical activity (PA) behaviors, sedentary time, and obesity indicators among adolescents. Cross-sectional study of 325 adolescents aged 14–18 years recruited from schools in Valencia, Spain. Participants' home neighborhoods were classified according to walkability and SES levels. Walkability was defined as an index of three built environment characteristics (i.e., residential density, land use mix, and street connectivity) based on geographic information system data. Moderate-vigorous PA (MVPA) and sedentary time were assessed using accelerometers…

Relation of body mass index and body fat mass for Spanish university students, taking into account leisure-time physical activity.

2009

The objective of this cross-sectional study was to analyze the relation of Body Mass Index with body fat mass while taking into account the amount of leisure-time physical activity for 299 male university students. Body fat mass was measured by bioelectrical impedance analysis. An estimation of energy expenditure in leisure-time physical activity in metabolic equivalents (METs) was obtained so participants were divided into six activity groups by percentile: no physical activity by the first group and participants physically active were divided into five groups by percentiles: <25%, 26–50%, 51–75%, 76–90%, and 91–100%. Correlations of Body Mass Index with body fat mass were strong in di…

Associations between the Severity of Sarcopenia and Health-Related Quality of Life in Community-Dwelling Middle-Aged and Older Adults

2021

(1) Background: The aim of this study was to analyze the associations between severity of sarcopenia and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) among community-dwelling middle-aged and older adults. (2) Methods: A cross-sectional study involving 304 older-adult participants was used to assess the severity of sarcopenia by measuring muscle strength (handgrip dynamometer), muscle mass (bioelectrical impedance analysis), and physical performance (Timed Up-and-Go test). The generic 36-item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36) was used to evaluate HRQoL. Anxiety and depression (Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale) as well as age were considered as possible confounders. Probable sarcopenia was dete…

The Factorization Method for Electrical Impedance Tomography in the Half-Space

2008

We consider the inverse problem of electrical impedance tomography in a conducting half-space, given electrostatic measurements on its boundary, i.e., a hyperplane. We first provide a rigorous weak analysis of the corresponding forward problem and then develop a numerical algorithm to solve an associated inverse problem. This inverse problem consists of the reconstruction of certain inclusions within the half-space which have a different conductivity than the background. To solve the inverse problem we employ the so-called factorization method of Kirsch, which so far has only been considered for the impedance tomography problem in bounded domains. Our analysis of the forward problem makes u…

Microwave Response of Ceramic MgB2 Samples

2009

The microwave response of ceramic MgB2 has been investigated as a function of temperature and external magnetic field by two different techniques: microwave surface impedance and second-harmonic emission measurements. The measurements of the surface resistance have shown that microwave losses in MgB2 are strongly affected by the magnetic field in the whole range of temperatures below Tc, even for relatively low field values. The results have been accounted for in the framework of the Coffey and Clem model hypothesizing that in different temperature ranges the microwave current induces fluxons to move in different regimes. In particular, the results at temperatures close to Tc have been quan…

Identification of ELF3 as an early transcriptional regulator of human urothelium

2014

AbstractDespite major advances in high-throughput and computational modelling techniques, understanding of the mechanisms regulating tissue specification and differentiation in higher eukaryotes, particularly man, remains limited. Microarray technology has been explored exhaustively in recent years and several standard approaches have been established to analyse the resultant datasets on a genome-wide scale. Gene expression time series offer a valuable opportunity to define temporal hierarchies and gain insight into the regulatory relationships of biological processes. However, unless datasets are exactly synchronous, time points cannot be compared directly. Here we present a data-driven ana…
