Magma and volatile supply to post-collapse volcanism and block resurgence in Siwi caldera (Tanna Island, Vanuatu arc)

2011

Siwi caldera, in the Vanuatu arc (Tanna island), is a rare volcanic complex where both persistent eruptive activity (Yasur volcano) and rapid block resurgence (Yenkahe horst) can be investigated simultaneously during a post-caldera stage. Here we provide new constraints on the feeding system of this volcanic complex, based on a detailed study of the petrology, geochemistry and volatile content of Yasur-Siwi bulk-rocks and melt inclusions, combined with measurements of the chemical composition and mass fluxes of Yasur volcanic gases. Major and trace element analyses of Yasur-Siwi volcanic rocks, together with literature data for other volcanic centers, point to a single magmatic series and p…

Microthermometry of fluid inclusions in calcite from Fuerteventura carbonatites: composition and formation conditions

2022

The petrographic analysis in calcite minerals in carbonatitic dykes from Fuerteventura Basal Complex (Ajuy, Punta de la Nao) shows the presence of isolated primary fluid inclusions, corroborating their magmatic origin instead of a late-stage origin. Micro-thermometric studies in calcite show a restricted range of apparent eutectic temperature (Te*= -21.7 – -21.0 °C) and final ice melting temperatures (Tim= -3.2 – -2.1. °C). Homogenization temperatures and pressures are in the range of 140-210 °C and 4-16 bars respectively. Our results suggest the binary NaCl-H2O system as a characterizing chemical system in studied fluid inclusions, with the presence of low salinity fluids (≈ 5 wt. % NaCleq…

Centri storici siciliani e accessibilità

2021

The Sicilian hinterland is dotted with small towns and villages. Nowadays, these are being depopulated due to their marginality with regard to economic flows and their limited accessibility, which was often the very reason for their creation. The paradox of this desolation is their state of conservation, which makes one view smartness and inclusiveness as genetic traits. The new economic models (sustainable, circular, low-cost, etc.) and the renewed demands (space on a human scale, balance with nature) justify the rethinking in terms of re-appropriation and recovery. The physical and geographical constraints could be rethought and might suggest combined solutions including sustainable mobil…

Complexation of phosphine ligands with peracetylated β-cyclodextrin in supercritical carbon dioxide: Effect of temperature and cosolvent on the equil…

2009

Abstract The interaction between peracetylated-β-cyclodextrin and tert-butyl and adamantyl functionalized triphenylphosphine derivatives was studied in supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO 2 ) based solvent media by UV–vis spectroscopy. The equilibrium constant for a 1:1 complexation reaction was obtained from titration spectra both in pure carbon dioxide and in the presence of methanol as a cosolvent in the temperature range 308–323 K to estimate the internal energy and entropy of the inclusion equilibrium. The values of the equilibrium constants were found significantly smaller than those obtained in aqueous solution with analogous phosphines and substantially independent of the nature of t…

Composition, crystallization conditions and genesis of sulfide-saturated parental melts of olivine-phyric rocks from Kamchatsky Mys (Kamchatka, Russi…

2020

Highlights • Parental melts of sulfide-bearing KM rocks have near primary MORB-like composition. • Crystallization of these S-saturated melts occurred in near-surface conditions. • Extensive fractionation and crustal assimilation are not the causes of S-saturation. • S content in melts can be restored by accounting for daughter sulfide globules. Abstract Sulfide liquids that immiscibly separate from silicate melts in different magmatic processes accumulate chalcophile metals and may represent important sources of the metals in Earth's crust for the formation of ore deposits. Sulfide phases commonly found in some primitive mid-ocean ridge basalts (MORB) may support the occurrence of sulfide …

Spectrophotometric determination of binding constants between some aminocyclodextrins and nitrobenzene derivatives at various pH values

2002

Abstract The inclusion capacity of three modified cyclodextrins—namely mono-(6- N , N -dimethylamino-6-deoxy)- ( 3 ), mono-6-(2-aminoethyl)-amino-6-deoxy- ( 4 ) and mono-6-(2- N , N -dimethylaminoethyl)-amino-6-deoxy- ( 5 ) β-cyclodextrin, with six para -substituted nitrobenzenes ( A – F ) has been investigated at three different pH values. Molecular interactions in inclusion complexes have also been investigated by means of molecular mechanics (MM2/QD) models. The desolvation of the cyclodextrin is the most important factor in determining the binding ability of the various hosts. However, for a given host, electrostatic and van der Waals interactions and the formation of a hydrogen bond be…

Thallium geochemistry in the metamorphic Lengenbach sulfide deposit, Switzerland: Thallium-isotope fractionation in a sulfide melt

2014

The Lengenbach (Switzerland) Pb-As-Tl-Zn deposit was formed from a sulfide melt at about 500 °C during Alpine metamorphism, but details on its formation and especially the source of the metals are still under debate. In this study we present two sample sets to address these questions: 1. MC-ICP-MS analyses of thallium isotopes in sulfides, sulfosalts, and melt inclusions from the Alpine metamorphic Lengenbach deposit in the Binn Valley of Switzerland, the non-metamorphic Wiesloch Mississippi Valley-type deposit in Southern Germany, and the Cu- and As-rich mineralization at Pizzo Cervandone about 2 km SW of the Lengenbach deposit, which has been discussed as potential source of the Lengenbac…

Spectrophotometric determinations of binding constants between cyclodextrins and aromatic nitrogen substrates at various pH values

2001

The inclusion capacity of native β-cyclodextrin (1) and mono-(6-amino-6-deoxy)-β-cyclodextrin (2) versus aromatic compounds having a nitro or an amino group or both has been investigated at three different pH values. Molecular interactions in inclusion complexes have also been investigated by means of molecular mechanics (MM2/QD) models. Electrostatic and van der Waals interactions and the formation of a hydrogen bond between the donor amino group and the oxygen atom of the secondary hydroxyl group seem to be the more important contributions in determining complex stability. The inclusion capacity of two different cyclodextrins versus aromatic compounds has been investigated at three differ…

Chemical evolution of ore-forming brines – Basement leaching, metal provenance, and the redox link between barren and ore-bearing hydrothermal veins.…

2019

Abstract Six mineralogically exemplary barren and mineralized hydrothermal veins (with Pb and Zn ores) of Jurassic-Cretaceous and Cenozoic age in the Schwarzwald mining district, SW Germany were chosen to shed light on the origin of their mineralogical diversity. The selection of the veins was guided by the fact that they represent the largest number of veins in the region, are very well known mineralogically and geochemically, and they provide nice examples of barren and mineralized veins of similar age. Fluid inclusion data from the individual veins overlap implying their diverse mineralogy is not caused by different fluid compositions participating during fluid mixing. LA-ICPMS data of s…
