Review of acoustic methods for space charge measurement

2015

In the last decade, due to the increased use of direct current, the space charge accumulation phenomenon has reached more interest. In this regard, several non-destructive measurement systems were used. In particular, for solid dielectrics, the acoustic methods have had greater success. This review presents a brief historical evolution of the Pulse Electro- Acoustic (PEA) method, describing the working operation, the thicknesses analyzed and the spatial resolution for the different configurations of the PEA cell. The Pressure Wave Propagation (PWP) method in both configurations Piezo-PWP and Laser Induced Pressure Pulse (LIPP) is also described.

Insights into the effect of the spacer on the properties of imidazolium based AIE luminogens

Abstract With the aim to obtain organic salts with potential applications in high performance molecular electronics, we combined properties of π-conjugated spacers, like 1,4-diethynylbenzene and 1,6-diethynylpyrene, with the ones of both imidazole and imidazolium units. Physico-chemical properties of obtained fluorescent organic salts were investigated performing thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and cyclic voltammetry measurements (CV). Initial light-induced degradation study of multicrystalline modules made from silicon material processed through different manufacturing routes

The paper presents results of initial lightinduced degradation (LID) of multicrystalline silicon photovoltaic (PV) modules made of crystalline silicon from different manufacturing processes. The modules were installed within the Sunbelt, in Hyderabad, India. Current-voltage (I–V) characteristics are measured and infra-red (IR) images of the modules are taken at regular intervals. A relationship of the IV degradation with the IR images is discussed. Results from laboratory LID tests at room temperature are performed parallel to the outdoor degradation of PV modules. Electromagnetically Induced Transparency and optical pumping processes formed in Cs sub-micron thin cell

Abstract The Electromagnetically Induced Transparency (EIT) effect in a Λ -system formed by Cs atoms (6 S 1/2  − 6 P 3/2  − 6 S 1/2 ) confined in an extremely thin cell (ETC) (atomic column thickness L varies in the range of 800 nm –3 µm is studied both experimentally and theoretically. It is demonstrated that when the coupling laser frequency is in exact resonance with the corresponding atomic transition, the EIT resonance parameters weakly depend on L , which allows us to detect the effect at L  =  λ  = 852 nm. We present measurements of dark-line resonances excited in Rb atomic vapor confined in micrometric cells (MC). In our work, the Lambda-systems on D2 line of 85Rb have been studied with the use of bi-chromatic radiation of two separate narrowband diode lasers.

Light-induced ionic processes in optical oxide glasses

Abstract The density of optical glasses is changed by the influence of light capable of generating color centers in these materials. Such defect generation is not only an electronic process, but an atomic displacement is also necessary. The strong localization of electronic and vibrational excitations in the glass network leads to the high efficiency of sub-threshold defect generation. Secondary ionic processes lead to the changes of basic glass properties (light refractive index, density, mechanical strength, etc.); thus, it is possible to use optical glasses as light detectors for appropriate wavelengths.

Thermally induced emission of light from a metallic diffraction grating, mediated by surface plasmons

1999

The angular emission of light of wavelength 710 and 810 nm from a gold diffraction grating was studied at about 700°C. A peak in the emission was found for defined angles. This contribution is purely TM-polarised and is attributed to thermally excited surface plasmons, coupled to light waves by the diffraction grating.

Characterization in the archaeological excavation site of heterotrophic bacteria and fungi of deteriorated wall painting of Herculaneum in Italy

Microbiological characterization of frescos in four different locations (Collegio degli Augustali, Casa del Colonnato Tuscanico, Casa dello Scheletro and Casa del Gran Portale) of excavation sites of Herculaneum was carried out. The use of infrared thermography allowed detecting sample points on frescos with greatest moisture not visible to the naked eye, resulting in structural damage. The microclimatic conditions provided perfect habitat for bacteria and fungi, particularly of spore forming and mould.
