A Non-Parametric Parallel Harris-Affine Detector

2009

This paper describes a parallel version of a new automatic Harris-based corner detector. A simple but effective client-server based scheduler has been implemented in order to dynamically distribute the workload on heterogeneous parallel architectures such as Grid systems. Results obtained on the COMETA Grid show the effectiveness and the robustness of the proposed approach.

Designing for Mixed Reality Urban Exploration

2021

Funding Information: Acknowledgments. This work was supported by the European Union Seventh Framework Programme (grant agreement no 601139) and the Italian Ministry of Education, University, and Research (MIUR) PON AIM project (id: AIM1875400-1, CUP: B74I18000210006). Publisher Copyright: © 2021. All Rights Reserved. This paper introduces a design framework for mixed reality urban exploration (MRUE), based on a concrete implementation in a historical city. The framework integrates different modalities, such as virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and haptics-audio interfaces, as well as advanced features such as personalized recommendations, social exploration, and itinerary manage…

On The Maximum Number of Abelian Squares in a Word

2014

Strings (aka sequences or words) form the most basic and natural data structure. They occur whenever information is electronically transmitted (as bit streams), when natural language text is spoken or written down (as words over, for example, the Latin alphabet), in the process of heredity transmission in living cells (through DNA sequences) or the protein synthesis (assequence of amino acids), and in many more different contexts

Words, Trees and Automata Minimization

2013

In this paper we explore some connections between some combinatorial properties of words and the study of extremal cases of the automata minimization process. An intermediate role is played by the notion od word trees for which some properties of words are generalized. In particular, we describe an infinite family of binary automata, called word automata and constructed by using standard sturmian words and more specifically Fibonacci words, that represent the extremal case of some well known automata minimization algorithms, such as Moore’s and Hopcroft’s methods. As well as giving an overview of the main results in this context, the main purpose of this paper is to prove that, even if a re…

Sviluppi della Intelligenza Computazionale: l'esempio del Sarcasm Detection

2016

Dopo un periodo prolungato in cui vigeva uno scarto persistente tra l’ottimismo dato dai grandi proclami di ricerca e la scarsità e frammentarietà di risultati veri e tangibili, viviamo (finalmente) nell’era delle grandi conquiste dell’Intelligenza Artificiale
