The amount of information exchanged per unit of time between two dynamic processes is an important concept for the analysis of complex systems. A New Feature Selection Methodology for K-mers Representation of DNA Sequences

DNA sequence decomposition into k-mers and their frequency counting, defines a mapping of a sequence into a numerical space by a numerical feature vector of fixed length. This simple process allows to compare sequences in an alignment free way, using common similarities and distance functions on the numerical codomain of the mapping. The most common used decomposition uses all the substrings of a fixed length k making the codomain of exponential dimension. The aim of the study is to reveal the role of sound in action anticipation and performance, and to test whether the level of precision in action planning and execution is related to the level of sensorimotor skills and experience that listeners possess about a specific action. A recommendation system for the prediction of drug-target associations

In this chapter a recommendation system is presented, based on the integration of a Protein-Protein Interaction (PPI) network taken from the Intact database, and a set of associations between drugs and targets taken from the DrugBank database. Depending on how proteins are connected on the PPI network, given an input drug the system suggests new targets. Compensated transfer entropy as a tool for reliably estimating information transfer in physiological time series

We present a framework for the estimation of transfer entropy (TE) under the conditions typical of physiological system analysis, featuring short multivariate time series and the presence of instantaneous causality (IC).
