Religion and governance in microfinance institutions: evidence from the global microfinance industry

The study uses secondary data on a sample of rated Christian and secular MFIs compiled in rating reports by rating agencies to compare the governance differences and similarities between Christian and secular MFIs. The research uses the random effects General Least Squares and logistic regression models alongside other univariate statistical methods to test for the effect of religious affiliation on corporate governance. In diesem Buch ist die Geschichte der Wiederentdeckung des Palimpsests mit den Gaius-Institutionen durch Barthold Georg Niebuhr neu verhandelt. Die jüngst wiederbelebte These von einer „angekündigten Entdeckung“ wird in Frage gestellt. Das verzerrte Bild des Niebuhrschen Fundes in der Sicht dieser These ist kein Zufall. Es stellt sich vielmehr als später Nachklang wissenschaftlicher Querelen jener Zeit dar. This article deals with the traditional social organization of the Borana, an Oromo-speaking pastoral group of Northern Kenya and Southern Ethiopia. A special attention is reserved to the political role of four basic institutions: the kinship system, the gadaa system, the hariyaa system and the qaalluu. Cet article concerne l'organisation sociale des Borana, un groupe pastoral de langue Oromo du Kenya septentrional et de l'Ethiopie méridionale. Une attention particulière est portée au rôle politique de quatre institutions fondamentales: le système de parenté, les systèmes gadaa et hariyaa, et le qaalluu.
