The C-ethyl-2-methylresorcinarene (1) forms 1:1 in-cavity complexes with aromatic N,N′-dioxides, only if each of the aromatic rings has an N−O group. The structurally different C-shaped 2,2′-bipyridine N,N′-dioxide (2,2′-BiPyNO) and the linear rod-shaped 4,4′-bipyridine N,N′-dioxide (4,4′-BiPyNO) both form 1:1 in-cavity complexes with the host resorcinarene in C4v crown and C2v conformations, respectively. In the solid state, the host–guest interactions between the 1,3-bis(4-pyridyl)propane N,N′-dioxide (BiPyPNO) and the host 1 stabilize the unfavorable anti-gauche conformation. The increase in comorbidities due to an aging population determines a marked increase in the use of drugs (polypharmacy), which in turn carries a high risk of drug-drug interactions. This Paper will analyze the relationship between exposure to adverse drug interactions, and hospitalization and mortality in a cohort of elderly patients, living in a local Health Unit in Palermo, Italy. These patients were exposed to drugs whose concurrent use is contraindicated during the period 1.1.2014 - 30.12.2014. In vivo triceps surae and quadriceps femoris muscle function in a squat jump and counter movement jump

An optic fibre method was used to measure in humans in vivo Achilles (ATF) and patellar tendon forces (PTF) during submaximal squat jumps (SJ) and counter movement jumps (CMJ). Normal two-legged jumps on a force plate and one-legged jumps on a sledge apparatus were made by four volunteers. Kinetics, kinematics, and muscle activity from seven muscles were recorded. The loading patterns of the tendomuscular system differed among the jumping conditions, but were similar when the jumping height was varied. Peak PTF were greater than ATF in each condition. Video games as a consumer product have changed significantly with the advent of in-game purchasing systems (e.g., microtransactions, ‘loot boxes’). This review examines consumer protections related to in-game purchasing by anticipating some of the potential design strategies that might contribute to higher risk consumer behavior. Attention was directed towards the analysis of patents for potential in-game purchasing systems, with 13 identified on Google Patents. Priming effect increases with depth in a boreal forest soil

Abstract Climate warming increases labile carbon (C) inputs to soil through increased photosynthesis and C allocation belowground. This could counterintuitively lead to losses of soil C via priming effects (PE): the stimulation of soil organic matter (SOM) decomposition caused by labile C addition. Systematic quantification of PEs in different ecosystems is needed. We measured PEs of free-living soil microbes in different layers of a boreal forest soil, and found that the relative magnitude of the PE increased with soil depth.
