MINDO/3 Study of the Rearrangement of 1-Methylcyclohexyl Cation to 1,2-Dimethylcyclopentyl Cation
1986
The rearrangement of the 1-methylcyclohexyl cation to the 1,2-dimethylcyclopentyl cation has been studied by MINDO/3 calculations, as an application of the branching mechanism model for cycloalkanes. Possible intermediates and transition states have been characterized by diagonalization of their Hessian matrixes. Two nonequivalent pathways, α and β scissions, are relatively close in energy. The calculated transition states are almost equivalent in energy to those found for cyclohexyl cation. Hence, the energy barriers are higher for the rearrangement of the 1-methyl than for cyclohexyl cation, because the former is less stable than the latter.

Risk Disclosure in the European Banking Industry: Qualitative and Quantitative Content Analysis Methodologies
2022
This book aims to shed light on the advantages and disadvantages of both qualitative and quantitative content analysis methodologies by examining risk disclosure practices in the European banking industry. Content analysis methodologies allow to assess the level of transparency of financial and non-financial reports by focusing on the information disclosed to the public with reference to their risk exposure and management. There is an ongoing debate in the literature to understand whether qualitative or quantitative content analysis methodologies are more effective and useful to analyse disclosure practices. Some authors contend that qualitative methodologies may be more appropriate because…
Continuous auditing in public sector and central banks: a framework to tackle implementation challenges
2022
Purpose This paper aims to analyse the implementation challenges faced by internal audit departments of public sector organisations and central banks when implementing continuous auditing (CA) systems. CA aims to monitor internal control systems and risk levels on a continuous basis to support the audit process. This study identifies the implementation challenges of CA systems and proposes adequate countermeasures. Design/methodology/approach This study employs the design science information system research and the design science research process methodologies to ensure the rigor of this analysis. These research methodologies are adopted to tackle identified organisational problems and pro…
Law of Finance: Evidence from Finland
2003
Although it is widely acknowledged that the benefits of corporate governance reform could be substantial, systematic evidence on such reforms is scant. We both document and evaluate a contemporary corporate governance reform by constructing 18 measures of shareholder and creditor protection for Finland for the period 1980-2000. The measures reveal that shareholder protection has been strengthened whereas creditor protection has been weakened. We also demonstrate how the reform is consistent with a reorganisation of the Finnish financial market in which a bank-centred financial system shifted from relationship-based debt finance towards increasing dominance by the stock market. We find evide…

Competitive gold-activation modes in terminal alkynes: an experimental and mechanistic study.
2013
The competition between π- and dual σ,π-gold-activation modes is revealed in the gold(I)-catalyzed heterocyclization of 1-(o-ethynylaryl)urea. A noticeable effect of various ligands in gold complexes on the choice of these activation modes is described. The cationic [Au(IPr)](+) (IPr=2,6-bis(diisopropylphenyl)imidazol-2-ylidene) complex cleanly promotes the π activation of terminal alkynes, whereas [Au(PtBu3 )](+) favors intermediate σ,π species. In this experimental and mechanistic study, which includes kinetic and cross-over experiments, several σ-gold, σ,π-gold, and other gold polynuclear reaction intermediates have been isolated and identified by NMR spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, or …
Contribución al análisis sociológico de la creatividad y la digitalización del campo cultural: creación, intermediación y crisis
2019
The so-called transition to the digital paradigm is eroding the autonomy of the cultural field achieved during the XIX and XX Centuries, subjugating them to economic and technological dynamics. However, the hegemonic discourse tends to interpret this as an overall positive process for the creative domain, focusing on the increase in information resource and creativity tool availability. However, an analysis of the theories and concepts of the sociology of culture reveals a more ambivalent balance. While the notion of authorship and creation can be interpreted from a more cooperative and relativistic view it is arguable whether this concept can be eliminated altogether. Also, although cultur…
Spectroscopic and DFT Characterization of a Highly Reactive Nonheme FeV–Oxo Intermediate
2018
The reaction of [(PyNMe3)FeII(CF3SO3)2], 1, with excess peracetic acid at −40 °C generates a highly reactive intermediate, 2b(PAA), that has the fastest rate to date for oxidizing cyclohexane by a nonheme iron species. It exhibits an intense 490 nm chromophore associated with an S = 1/2 EPR signal having g-values at 2.07, 2.01, and 1.94. This species was shown to be in a fast equilibrium with a second S = 1/2 species, 2a(PAA), assigned to a low-spin acylperoxoiron(III) center. Unfortunately, contaminants accompanying the 2(PAA) samples prevented determination of the iron oxidation state by Mossbauer spectroscopy. Use of MeO-PyNMe3 (an electron-enriched version of PyNMe3) and cyclohexyl pero…
Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus pseudintermedius as causative agent of dairy cow mastitis.
2013
Staphylococcus pseudintermedius is a coagulase-positive specie similar to Staphylococcus intermedius , frequently associated with pyoderma, otitis and urinary tract infections of dogs and cats (van Duijkeren and others 2011). No information about bovine mastitis caused by S pseudintermedius is available in the literature. Antimicrobial resistance among S pseudintermedius strains is increasing: in the past, susceptibility to most antibiotics was common (Bond and Loeffler 2012), but in the last few years methicillin-resistant S pseudintermedius (MRSP) strains have emerged as a significant animal health problem in veterinary medicine (Schwarz and others 2008, van Duijkeren and others 2008, Wee…
