Role of high-resolution ultrasound in guiding treatment of idiopathic plantar fasciitis with minimally invasive techiniques

2007

The aim of this study was to assess the reliability of peri-fascial oedema as a sonographic criterion for selecting the most appropriate treatment (ultrasound-guided corticosteroid injection or ultrasound-guided extracorporeal shock wave therapy) of idiopathic plantar fasciitis (IPF).Sixty-four patients with a clinical diagnosis of unilateral refractory IPF, treated conservatively for at least 8 weeks, were studied with high-resolution ultrasound (HRUS). Pain intensity was evaluated with a visual analogue scale (VAS). HRUS was used to confirm IPF and identify the presence of peri-fascial oedema. Patients with an HRUS diagnosis of IPF were grouped according to the presence (A) or absence (B)…

Intralesional corticosteroid injections in the treatment of central giant cell lesions of the jaws: A meta-analytic study

2013

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the response of treatment of central giant cell lesion to intralesional corticosteroid injections. Study Design: Review of articles indexed in PubMed on the topic between the years 1988 and 2011, and development of a descriptive meta-analysis of the results. Results: Sample of 41 patients primarily treated with intralesional corticosteroid injections was obtained, with a male female ratio of 1:0.95, being 23 aggressive and 18 non-aggressive central giant cell lesions. Triamcinolone acetonide and triamcinolone hexacetonide were the drugs used, and 78.0% cases were considered as good result, 14.6% were considered as moderate response and 7.3% w…

SAFETY AND TOLERABILITY OF LOCAL TREATMENT WITH ILOPROST, A PROSTACYCLIN ANALOGUE, IN PATIENTS WITH PEYRONIE'S DISEASE. A PHASE I STUDY

2011

Objective. To assess the possibility of intralesional therapy for the treatment of Peyronie's disease, we have verified the safety and tolerability of intralesional injections of Iloprost ( an I 2 Prostacyclin analogue) for its property to suppress the production of CTFG in fibroblasts. CTFG is a connective tissue growth factor that acts in concert with TGF-β to stimulate the fibrotic process. Materials and methods. 38 patients with Peyronie’s disease were preliminarily evaluated by considering the symptoms, the degree of penile curvature, and the size of the plaque. Each patient received weekly intralesional injections of 200 ng of Iloprost in 1 ml normal saline for 5 weeks. If tolerated, …
