We report a technique for implanting intraocular lenses (IOLs) in the ciliary sulcus in eyes without capsule support. The IOL design allows it to be implanted without fixation sutures. The lens was implanted in 3 aphakic eyes without capsule support.

ABSTRACT PURPOSE: To evaluate intraocular dimensions of the anterior segment of myopic phakic eyes after implantation of foldable iris-fixated lenses. METHODS: Seventeen myopic eyes that received a foldable iris-fixated phakic intraocular lens (PIOL) were assessed. Distances between the cornea and the IOLoptic edge and between the IOL optic and the crystalline lens were evaluated using Scheimpf lug photography 3 months postoperatively. RESULTS: The average postoperative distance between the central corneal endothelium and the anterior surface of the IOL was 2.01±0.26 mm. Abstract Purpose To ascertain whether 0.4 mL of cefotaxime 0.25% applied intracamerally causes toxic alteration of the human corneal endothelium. Methods In this prospective randomized masked study, 66 patients had cataract extraction using phacoemulsification, a frown incision, and implantation of a poly(methyl methacrylate) intraocular lens. This was followed by intraocular injection of 0.4 mL of cefotaxime 0.25% or balanced salt solution (BSS®). Contact specular microscopy and photography were performed preoperatively and 1 to 4 days and 3 months postoperatively. METHODS: A prospective, non-randomized, self-controlled clinical trial was conducted of 40 eyes (28 myopic, 12 hyperopic) of 23 patients with high ametropia and astigmatism. PURPOSE To determine the differences in refractive and visual results obtained in eyes with high and low myopia after multifocal intraocular lens (IOL) implantation. METHODS Monocular visual acuity for distance and near, with and without distance correction, and photopic and mesopic contrast sensitivity were measured at 6 months after surgery in 152 myopic eyes implanted with the AcrySof ReSTOR Natural (SN60D3) IOL. Two groups were created: high and low myopia (76 eyes in each). RESULTS Monocular best distance-corrected visual acuity was 0.02+/-0.06 logMAR for low myopes and 0.05+/-0.09 logMAR for high myopes.
