Nel labirinto dell'ordinario. Perché rileggere "L'invention du quotidien"
2012
Design for invention: a framework for identifying emerging design–prior art conflict
2018
The increasing complexity of patented mechanical designs means that their novelty and inventive steps increasingly rely on interacting geometric features and how they contribute to device functions. These features and interactions are normally incorporated in patents through clear patent claims. However, patents can be difficult to interpret and understand for designers due to their legal terminologies. This suggests there is a need for greater awareness of relevant prior art amongst designers in terms of avoiding potential conflict. This paper presents a framework that helps designers obtain insight on relevant prior art and enables emerging design–prior art comparison. The framework mainl…
Le arringhe dei Generali alle truppe fra retorica e realtà
2010
Since war is the dominant subject matter in ancient Historiography, the general's speech to his men before battle is attested in almost all historians. The aim of the work was the study of the commander exhortations before the battle in Thucydides. Particular attention was devoted to the exhortations by two commanders during the Peloponnesian War: Brasidas, from Sparta, and Demosthenes, from Athens. The scope was to investigate what arguments they used in order to spurring the troops in the battle with audacity. Fact or Fiction? Thucydides had been a general himself. The speeches which he puts into generals' mouths before battle are not rhetorical invention. They keep as close as possible t…

La «segretezza profonda» dei luoghi: Tetto Murato di Lalla Romano
2022
"Tetto Murato consisted of a group of houses, courtyards and vegetable gardens, all surrounded by a square wall. One entered through a half-collapsed arch into a maze of vegetable gardens invaded by chickens, walls and buildings''. This is how the place, around which the narrative warp of a novel was woven in 1957, takes shape in all its vivid physiognomy. The title Tetto Murato (Walled Roof) condenses its distinctive trait in the peculiar evocative concreteness of the image. The inventive dynamics of the narrative will be explored, emphasising how the space in which they unfold, the 'Roof', from the very incipit of the quoted passage, is profiled in all its protagonism. We will dwell on th…
2018
Abstract: The essay deals with the theme of mimesis and invention in architecture through the paradigm of transformation, understood as the practice of incessant references and re-elaborations. It does so starting from the theme of the transmission of knowledge in the Aristotelian key that there is always something that lies in what it becomes. The thesis is supported through references to painting, literature, linguistics and neuroscience and uses examples of the architecture of five critically analyzed and de-engineered masters.
«L’ESALTAZIONE DEL VERO E LA PROSOPOPEA DELLE FORZE INANIMATE»:L’ALTROVE DI ORIO VERGANI
2020
The fact that Orio Vergani, journalist, writer and reporter, was, as Montale suggested, "a daily reader of life" is testified to by the "alluvial mass" of writings through which he unravels an itinerary of adhesion to Fascism lived, close to the Second World War, in a problematic way and marked by a pervasive conscientious turmoil in his inventive and diaristic writing. From the recurring knots that permeate the inventive plot of the stories in the posthumous volume "Storie per quattro stagioni" (Stories for four seasons), from 1920 onwards, a restless inner journey is sketched out, culminating, between 1950 and 1959, in the sharp diaristic 'narration' of Misure del tempo (Measures of the t…
A ‘Fortuitous’ Imagination. Josef Frank. Thirteen Fantasy Houses for Dagmar Grill
2017
Between 22 July and 15 August 1947 Josef Frank wrote thirteen letters to Dagmar Grill, cousin of his wife, met in 1914 in Stockholm. The letters contain several hypothesis for an ideal house to be built in Skargarden, an archipelago to the east of Stockholm, where Dagmar Grill lived. Every letter contains sketches and schemes for an imaginary house. The thirteen projects refer to identical functional needs, but differ each other in shape and size. Although they are “fantasy” houses, the sketches refer to a real imaginative exercise rather than to a simple figurative/compositional exercise.
Innovative Educational Pathways in Spine Surgery: Advanced Virtual Reality–Based Training
2020
Background Over the past few years, a reorganization of the educational pathways has been promoted with the purpose of optimizing the acquisition of competences and their assessment, so as to reduce the risks to both health care professionals and end users. Virtual reality (VR) has been repeatedly tested, initially as a positive reinforcement for more traditional educational pathways and, more recently, as their potential substitute. The aim of this study was to demonstrate the potentiality of VR simulation training in spine surgery. Methods The VR simulator reproduced the lateral lumbar access to the spine. The simulation included a tutorial, the preoperative settings, and the surgical ses…
