Gas chromatographic/mass spectrometric and microbiological analyses on irradiated chiken
2007
Ionizing radiation is widely used as treatment technique for food preservation. It involves among others reduction of microbial contamination, disinfestations, sprout inhibition and extension of shelf life of food. However, the commercialization of irradiated food requires the availability of reliable methods to identify irradiated foodstuffs. In this paper, we present results on the application to irradiated chicken of this method, based on the detection, in muscle and skin samples, of the peaks of ions 98 Da and 112 Da, in a ratio approximately 4:1, typical of radiation induced 2-dodecylcyclobutanones (2-DCB). Aim of the work was also to study the time stability of the measured parameters…
Entwicklung der Hornhautdicke während der UV-Vernetzungstherapie unter Anwendung verschiedener Kompositionen von Riboflavin-Augentropfen
2011
Background During the UVA-cross-linking treatment in keratoconus patients, the UVA rays are partially absorbed in the stroma of the riboflavin-loaded cornea. This effect protects the corneal endothelium from UVA irradiation damage. The intensity of UVA light reaching the endothelium is inversely correlated with corneal thickness. The common composition of riboflavin eye drops may lead to a marked reduction in corneal thickness increasing the risk of endothelial damage. Patients and methods In a retrospective analysis of 23 UVA-cross-linking procedures on 23 patients we collected data about the pre-, intra- and postoperative corneal thickness (measured with ultrasound). Among these patients …
Ionic liquids and microwave irradiation as synergistic combination for polar Diels–Alder reactions using properly substituted heterocycles as dienoph…
2012
For the DA reactions between nitropyrrole derivatives and isoprene, the combination of microwave irradiation and protic ionic liquid, has a notable synergistic effect. DFT calculations suggest that a supplementary energy ranking in the IR region of 1700-1400 cm-1 can favour the structural changes in the reactants to reach the TS. Fil: Mancini, Pedro Maximo Emilio. La1-xSrxCo1-yFeyO3-delta perovskites: Preparation, characterization and solar photocatalytic activity
2015
Abstract LaCoO3 perovskites substituted by Sr at the A site and/or by Fe at the B site have been prepared by the citrate method. Characterizations by several techniques, such as specific surface area (BET method), XRD, TPR, SEM, UV–vis in DRS mode, XPS and TGA analyses, have been performed. The so prepared La1−xSrxCo1−yFeyO3−δ perovskites are semiconductor materials showing band gap energy values from 1.9 to 3.2 eV. They displayed solar photocatalytic activity for the 2-propanol degradation in gas–solid regime. The photocatalytic results suggest that the perovskites containing Fe are less active and the activity decreases by increasing the Fe content, however the presence of iron avoids the…
Dosimetric effect of respiratory motion on planned dose in whole-breast volumetric modulated arc therapy using moderate and ultra-hypofractionation.
2021
Abstract Background and purpose The interplay effect of respiratory motion on the planned dose in free-breathing right-sided whole-breast irradiation (WBI) were studied by simulating hypofractionated VMAT treatment courses. Materials and methods Ten patients with phase-triggered 4D-CT images were included in the study. VMAT plans targeting the right breast were created retrospectively with moderately hypofractionated (40.05 Gy in 15 fractions of 2.67 Gy) and ultra-hypofractionated (26 Gy 5 fractions of 5.2 Gy) schemes. 3D-CRT plans were generated as a reference. All plans were divided into respiratory phase-specific plans and calculated in the corresponding phase images. Fraction-specific d…
Lung autophagic response following exposure of mice to whole body irradiation, with and without amifostine
2010
Research highlights: {yields} We investigated the effect 6 Gy of WBI on the autophagic machinery of normal mouse lung. {yields} Irradiation induces dysfunction of the autophagic machinery in normal lung, characterized by decreased transcription of the LC3A/Beclin-1 mRNA and accumulation of the LC3A, and p62 proteins. {yields} The membrane bound LC3A-II protein levels increased in the cytosolic fraction (not in the pellet), contrasting the patterns noted after starvation-induced autophagy. {yields} Administration of amifostine, reversed all the LC3A and p62 findings, suggesting protection of the normal autophagic function. -- Abstract: Purpose: The effect of ionizing irradiation on the autop…
Postponed Is Not Canceled: Role of Craniospinal Radiation Therapy in the Management of Recurrent Infant Medulloblastoma—An Experience From the HIT-RE…
2013
Purpose To evaluate the efficacy of craniospinal irradiation (CSI) in the management of recurrent infant medulloblastoma after surgery and chemotherapy alone. Methods and Materials Seventeen pediatric medulloblastoma patients registered in the HIT-REZ 1997 and 2005 studies underwent CSI as salvage treatment at first recurrence. All patients had achieved complete remission after first-line treatment consisting of surgery and chemotherapy. Eleven patients showed metastatic disease at relapse. Five patients underwent surgery prior to radiation therapy, which resulted in complete resection in 1 case. In 1 patient, complete resection of the residual tumor was performed after CSI. Eleven patients…
Randomized phase III study of whole-brain radiotherapy for primary CNS lymphoma
2015
Objective: This is the final report of a phase III randomized study to evaluate whole-brain radiotherapy (WBRT) in primary therapy of primary CNS lymphoma (PCNSL) after a median follow-up of 81.2 months. Methods: Patients with newly diagnosed PCNSL were randomized to high-dose methotrexate (HDMTX)–based chemotherapy alone or followed by WBRT. We hypothesized that the omission of WBRT would not compromise overall survival (OS; primary endpoint), using a noninferiority design with a margin of 0.9. Results: In the per-protocol population (n = 320), WBRT nonsignificantly prolonged progression-free survival (PFS) (median 18.2 vs 11.9 months, hazard ratio [HR] 0.83 [95% confidence interval (CI) 0…
Treatment of Children and Adolescents With Metastatic Medulloblastoma and Prognostic Relevance of Clinical and Biologic Parameters
2016
Purpose To assess an intensified treatment in the context of clinical and biologic risk factors in metastatic medulloblastoma. Patients and Methods Patients (4 to 21 years old, diagnosed between 2001 and 2007) received induction chemotherapy, dose-escalated hyperfractionated craniospinal radiotherapy, and maintenance chemotherapy. Subgroup status and other biologic parameters were assessed. Results In 123 eligible patients (median age, 8.2 years old; median follow-up, 5.38 years), 5-year event-free survival (EFS) and overall survival (OS) were 62% (95% CI, 52 to 72) and 74% (95% CI, 66 to 82), respectively. OS was superior compared with the precedent HIT ’91 trial. The 5-year EFS and OS wer…
Treatment of early childhood medulloblastoma by postoperative chemotherapy and deferred radiotherapy
2008
To investigate the utility of postoperative chemotherapy in delaying radiotherapy and to identify prognostic factors in early childhood medulloblastoma, we studied children younger than 3 years of age registered to the HIT-SKK'87 (Therapieprotokoll für Säuglinge und Kleinkinder mit Hirntumoren [Brain Tumor Radiotherapy for Infants and Toddlers with Medulloblastoma] 1987) trial who received systemic interval chemotherapy until craniospinal radiotherapy was applied at 3 years of age or at relapse, from 1987 to 1993. Children with postoperative residual tumor or metastatic disease received systemic induction chemotherapy prior to interval chemotherapy. Twenty-nine children were eligible for an…
