Brainstem reflex circuits revisited

Our current understanding of brainstem reflex physiology comes chiefly from the classic anatomical-functional correlation studies that traced the central circuits underlying brainstem reflexes and establishing reflex abnormalities as markers for specific areas of lesion. These studies nevertheless had the disadvantage of deriving from post-mortem findings in only a few patients. Prevention of medication related osteonecrosis of the jaw after dentoalveolar surgery : an institution's experience

Background Dentoalveolar surgery is a predisposing factor for medication related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ). The aim of our study was to evaluate the described surgical procedures to prevent the development of MRONJ after dentoalveolar surgery in patients receiving bisphosphonates. Simplifying the dental/periodontal management of patients with metabolic bone fragility receiving treatment with denosumab

Denosumab (DNB) is a bone-targeted medication used to preserve structural integrity and minimise the risk of fragility fractures in metastatic cancer and metabolic bone disorders. DNB targets and binds RANK Ligand, inhibiting osteoclast maturation, function, and survival. In contrast with nitrogen-containing bisphosphonates (N-BPs), DNB does not bind to hydroxyapatite and incorporate into bone; thus, bone cellular remodelling recovers rapidly after drug suspension. ABSTRACT: Osteonecrosis of the jaws (ONJ) is an adverse side event of bisphosphonates and denosumab, antiresorptive agents that effectively reduce the incidence of skeletal-related events in patients with metastatic bone cancer and multiple myeloma. Available data suggest that 0–27.5% of individuals exposed to antiresorptive agents can develop ONJ. There is increasing evidence that avoidance of surgical trauma and infection to the jawbones can minimize the risk of ONJ, but there are still a significant number of individuals who develop ONJ in the absence of these risk factors. CYP2C8 gene polymorphism and bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaw in patients with multiple myeloma

Osteonecrosis of the jaw is an uncommon but potentially serious complication of bisphosphonate therapy in multiple myeloma. Previous studies showed that the presence of one or two minor alleles of the cytochrome P450, subfamily 2C polypeptide 8 gene (CYP2C8) polymorphism rs1934951 was an independent prognostic marker associated with development of osteonecrosis of the jaw in multiple myeloma patients treated with bisphosphonates. A new morphologic classification of the alveolar ridge after distraction osteogenesis in human patients. A 17 years retrospective case series study

Background To perform a morphologic classification based on the results of bone augmentation after a distraction osteogenesis.
