On the dynamics of the AB Doradus system
2006
We present an astrometric analysis of the binary systems ABDorA /ABDorC and ABDorBa / ABDorBb. These two systems of well-known late-type stars are gravitationally associated and they constitute the quadruple ABDoradus system. From the astrometric data available at different wavelengths, we report: (i) a determination of the orbit of ABDorC, the very low mass companion to ABDorA, which confirms the mass estimate of 0.090Msun reported in previous works; (ii) a measurement of the parallax of ABDorBa, which unambiguously confirms the long-suspected physical association between this star and ABDorA; and (iii) evidence of orbital motion of ABDorBa around ABDorA, which places an upper bound of 0.4…
Validity and Reliability of the Leomo Motion-Tracking Device Based on Inertial Measurement Unit with an Optoelectronic Camera System for Cycling Peda…
2022
Background: The use of inertial measurement sensors (IMUs), in the search for a more ecological measure, is spreading among sports professionals with the aim of improving the sports performance of cyclists. The kinematic evaluation using the Leomo system (TYPE-R, Leomo, Boulder, CO, USA) has become popular. Purpose: The present study aimed to evaluate the reliability and validity of the Leomo system by measuring the angular kinematics of the lower extremities in the sagittal plane during pedaling at different intensities compared to a gold-standard motion capture camera system (OptiTrack, Natural Point, Inc., Corvallis, OR, USA). Methods: Twenty-four elite cyclists recruited from national a…
Cross-Talk Correction Method for Knee Kinematics in Gait Analysis Using Principal Component Analysis (PCA): A New Proposal
2014
International audience; Background: In 3D gait analysis, the knee joint is usually described by the Eulerian way. It consists in breaking down the motion between the articulating bones of the knee into three rotations around three axes: flexion/extension, abduction/adduction and internal/external rotation. However, the definition of these axes is prone to error, such as the "cross-talk'' effect, due to difficult positioning of anatomical landmarks. This paper proposes a correction method, principal component analysis (PCA), based on an objective kinematic criterion for standardization, in order to improve knee joint kinematic analysis. Methods: The method was applied to the 3D gait data of …
Dog sperm swimming parameters analysed by computer-assisted semen analysis of motility reveal major breed differences
2019
Dogs have undergone an intensive artificial selection process ever since the beginning of their relationship with humans. As a consequence, a wide variety of well-defined breeds exist today. Due to the enormous variation in dog phenotypes and the unlikely chance of gene exchange between them, the question arises as to whether they should still be regarded as a single species or, perhaps, they be considered as different taxa that possess different reproductive traits. The aim of this study was therefore to characterize some male reproductive traits, focusing on kinematic characteristics of dog spermatozoa from several breeds. Thirty-seven dogs from the following breeds were used: Staffordshi…
Effects of medially posted insoles on foot and lower limb mechanics across walking and running in overpronating men.
2017
Anti-pronation orthoses, like medially posted insoles (MPI), have traditionally been used to treat various of lower limb problems. Yet, we know surprisingly little about their effects on overall foot motion and lower limb mechanics across walking and running, which represent highly different loading conditions. To address this issue, multi-segment foot and lower limb mechanics was examined among 11 over-pronating men with normal (NORM) and MPI insoles during walking (self-selected speed 1.70 +/- 0.19 m/s vs 1.72 +/- 0.20 m/s, respectively) and running (4.04 +/- 0.17 m/s vs 4.10 +/- 0.13 m/s, respectively). The kinematic results showed that MPI reduced the peak forefoot eversion movement in …
Combined effects of type and depth of counting chamber, and rateof image frame capture, on bull sperm motility and kinematics
2019
Semen quality assessment requires accurate, reliable and objective methods for examination of sperm variables including sperm motility. For preparation of semen samples for artificial insemination, as a genetic resource, samples that are used for insemination need to have the capacity to result in a highly acceptable fertility rate. Several methods have been developed for evaluation of bull sperm in laboratory conditions and for preparation of doses for artificial insemination. Computer-assisted semen analyses can provide objective information on various sperm variables. Nevertheless, this equipment requires fine-calibrations considering differences among species, breeds and conditions for …
Immediate effects of shoes inducing ankle-destabilization around Henke's axis during challenging walking gaits: Gait kinematics and peroneal muscles …
2017
International audience; Due to its high frequency of occurrence, as well as possible residual symptoms, proper treatment of lateral ankle sprains (LAS) is important. From a physiological point of view, increasing the quantity of electromyographic (EMG) activity in the peroneal muscles will mechanically improve the functional stability of the ankle joint. The present study investigated the immediate effects of an ankle destabilization device (ADD) specifically designed to induce imbalances along the Henke’s axis during 3 challenging walking tasks. As the effects of such a device have to be tested on healthy participants before being implemented in rehabilitation programs, 12 healthy particip…
Movements Execution in Amnestic Mild Cognitive Impairment and Alzheimer’s Disease
2007
We evaluated the relationship between motor and neuropsychological deficits in subjects affected by amnestic Mild Cognitive Impairment (aMCI) and early Alzheimer’s Disease (AD). Kinematics of goal-directed movement of aMCI and AD subjects were compared to those of age-matched control subjects. AD showed a slowing down of motor performance compared to aMCI and controls. No relationships were found between motor and cognitive performances in both AD and aMCI. Our results suggest that the different motor behaviour between AD and aMCI cannot be related to memory deficits, probably reflecting the initial degeneration of parietal-frontal circuits for movement planning. The onset of motor dysfunct…
Knee Control and Jump-Landing Technique in Young Basketball and Floorball Players
2015
Poor knee alignment is associated with increased loading of the joints, ligaments and tendons, and may increase the risk of injury. The study purpose was to compare differences in knee kinematics between basketball and floorball players during a vertical drop jump (VDJ) task. We wanted to investigate whether basketball players, whose sport includes frequent jump-landings, exhibited better knee control compared with floorball players, whose sport involves less jumping. Complete data was obtained from 173 basketball and 141 floorball players. Peak knee valgus and flexion angles during the VDJ were analyzed by 3D motion analysis.Larger knee valgus angles were observed among basketball players …
A Dynamic Model for KUKA KR6 in SPIF Processes
2019
The paper presents the development of a dynamic model for the KUKA KR6 robot during single point incremental forming (SPIF) of metal sheets. The dynamic model of the KUKA KR6 robot is created in MATLAB®-SimMechanics. This dynamic model is necessary to verify that the mechanical structure of this low payload industrial robot of 36 Kg capacity can withstand some specific forces in incremental forming of some low plasticity alloys like Ti6Al4V. In the Centre of Studies and Research for Plastic Deformations of "Lucian Blaga" University of Sibiu, different attempts on single point incremental forming of thin metal sheets have been carried out and some of the studies are based on SPIF using the K…
