2020

Chlorine flavor perception and neutralization in drinking water
2010
For water suppliers, using chlorine is necessary to ensure water bacteriological quality from the treatment plant to the consumers’ tap. However, chlorine flavour is one of the most common reasons advocated for choosing tap water alternatives as drinking water. As a consequence, the putative link between chlorine flavour perception and tap water consumption is an issue in drinking water habits studies. Since the sensory mechanisms involved in chlorine flavour perception remained largely unknown, the main objective of this thesis work was to first highlight those mechanisms and then to identify potential lever chlorine flavour sensory neutralisation. In a first step, we demonstrated that hypo…
Monounsaturated fatly acid metabolism and colon cancer cells proliferation : role of Stearoyl-CoA desaturase-1 and effect of conjugated linoleic acid…
2012
Cancer cells adapt their metabolism in response to signals from the microenvironment and proliferation. Thus, MonoUnsaturated Fatty Acid (MUFA) synthesis is increased in colon cancer cells, and associated with increased Stearoyl-CoA Desaturase (SCD) activity, the rate limiting enzyme of MUFA biosynthesis. Polyunsaturated Fatty Acid (PUFA), as isomers of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), exert inhibitor activity on SCD-1 and have anti-cancer properties, but their mechanisms are not yet clear. In this context, the aim of this work was first to evaluate the role of SCD-1 in the proliferation of colon cancer cells (CCC) and to define the underlying mechanisms. In a second time, we provide new inf…
Characterization and role of nitric oxide production in Arabidopsis thaliana defense responses induced by oligogalacturonides
2011
Nitric oxide (NO) regulates a wide range of plant processes from development toenvironmental adaptation. In this study, NO production and its effects were investigated in aplant-pathogen context. The production of NO following Arabidopsis treatment witholigogalacturonides (OGs), an endogenous elicitor of plant defense, was assessed using the NOsensitive probe 4, 5-diamino fluorescein diacetate. Pharmacological and genetic approaches wereused to analyze NO enzymatic sources and its role in the Arabidopsis thaliana /Botrytis cinereainteraction. We showed that NO production involves both a L-arginine- and a nitrate reductase(NR)-pathways. OGs-induced NO production was Ca2+-dependent and modula…
Role of the non-infective stage of the acanthocephalan parasite Pomphorhychus laevis on the behavioural manipulation of its amphipod intermediate host
2012
In trophically-transmitted parasites, exploitation strategies of the intermediate host have been selected, in a way increasing parasites transmission probabilities to their definitive host. Particularly, numerous parasites are able to alter their intermediate host behaviour, a phenomenon called ‘behavioural manipulation’. This manipulation only occurs when the parasite developmental stage (or larval stage) is infective for the definitive host. Before reaching this stage, the development of parasite larvae is not sufficiently advanced to allow establishment in the definitive host (this stage is thus called ‘non-infective’). Early transmission of a non-infective stage therefore implies parasi…

Integrated weed management (IWM)-based cropping systems are of great interest due to their significant reduction of herbicide inputs by using a complex combination of agricultural techniques. The main objective of our work was to contribute to the environmental dimension of the multi-criteria evaluation of IWM-based cropping systems which were set up since 2000 on the experimental domain of the National Institute for Agronomical Research (INRA) to Bretenière (France). The variability of physical and hydrodynamic soil properties involved in the transfer of water through the vadose zone was studied for the 5 cropping systems present on the experimental site (1 reference cropping system and 4 …
Cholestérol-24S-hydroxylase (CYP46A1) et homéostasie du cholestérol dans la rétine en conditions physiologiques et pathologiques
2012
Cholesterol is the major sterol found in the retina. In its free form, cholesterol is present in all cell layers of the retina, whereas cholesteryl esters mainly accumulate at the basement of the retinal pigment epithelium. The intrinsic capacity of the retina to synthetize cholesterol appears limited. Some extra-retinal pathways actively participate to cholesterol uptake to the retina. Müller glial cells may contribute to cholesterol supply to retinal neurons, especially for synaptic formation. Cholesterol accumulation or conversely deficiency have deleterious consequences on neuron survival. Maintaining the equilibrium between cholesterol supply and neosynthesis in the one hand and choles…
Quantification des flux d’azote induits par les cultures de légumineuses et étude de leurs déterminants : comparaison de 10 espèces de légumineuses à…

In the context of agroecological transition, the reintroduction of legume crops should play a key role in cropping system sustainability by allowing a reduction of nitrogen (N) inputs. But few references are available concerning the agronomical and ecological services provided by a wide range of legume crops, particularly within crops succession scale. Thus, the main objective of our study is to quantify the N fluxes during and after the legume crops taking into account 10 legume crops (peas, lupin, faba bean, soybean...). Our experiment consists in i) quantifying symbiotic N fixation depending on the amount of soil inorganic N, the mineralisation of N present in legume crop residues after …
