The issue of doping control in sport involves the development of reliable analytical procedures and efficient strategies to process a large number of samples in a short period of time. Anti-fetal immune response mechanisms may be involved in the pathogenesis of placental abruption

Placental abruption is an unpredictable severe complication in pregnancy. In order to investigate the possibility that the activation of the fetal nonadaptive immune system may be involved in the pathogenesis of this disease, IL-6 release from cord blood monocytes was examined by intracellular cytokine staining and flow cytometric analysis. Our results demonstrate that preterm placental abruption (n = 15) in contrast to uncontrollable preterm labor (n = 33) is associated with significantly (P < 0.001) increased release of IL-6 from the fetal monocytes. Abstract A simple electrochemical sandwich immunoassay involving a polystyrene microarray slide coated with monoclonal capture antibodies and carbon screen-printed sensors (SPS) was designed for the rapid diagnosis of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). After glutaraldehyde fixation and treatment with ethanolic phosphotungstic acid (E-PTA) before plastic embedding, sections of rat large intestine showed a characteristic electron contrasting pattern in epithelial cells. The axis of microvilli, terminal web, a thin band below the luminal plasma membrane, centrioles and junctional complexes (tight junctions, adherens junctions, and desmosomes) appeared highly contrasted. We describe the field work in a cross-sectional study on the health of immigrant workers in Spain. Method: A convenience sample of workers from Colombia, Ecuador, Morocco and Rumania in four cities was targeted, using a block-walking approach. The outcome rates of the American Association of Public Opinion Research were estimated. Results: Of 6,504 persons approached, 71.4% were eligible contacts. Of these contacts, only 57.8% completed interviews. Response and cooperation rates were above 50%. Conclusions: Block-walking enabled surveyors to access difficult-to-reach groups. The u…

Utilizando informaciones inéditas recopiladas en el marco de un amplio programa de mejora de la gestión del sistema educativo, este articulo analiza los niveles de satisfacción de los docentes de educación primaria en Madagascar. En base a la estimación de modelos multinivel, se identifican como principales factores de insatisfacción los bajos niveles salariales y las dificultades en el cobro, los elevados ratios alumno-profesor, la precariedad en el empleo, la carencia de formación continua y la falta de infraestructuras básicas y material docente. The glycaemic index (GI) is a food metric that ranks the acute impact of available (digestible) carbohydrates on blood glucose. At present, few countries regulate the inclusion of GI on food labels even though the information may assist consumers to manage blood glucose levels. Australia and New Zealand regulate GI claims as nutrition content claims and also recognize the GI Foundation’s certified Low GI trademark as an endorsement. The GI Foundation of South Africa endorses foods with low, medium and high GI symbols. In Asia, Singapore’s Healthier Choice Symbol has specific provisions for low GI claims.
