Intermolecular oxidative dehydrogenative 3,3′-coupling of benzo[b]furans and benzo[b]thiophenes promoted by DDQ/H+: total synthesis of shandougenine B

With an excess of a strong acid, 2,3-dichloro-5,6-dicyano-1,4-quinone (DDQ) is shown to promote metal-free intermolecular oxidative dehydrogenative (ODH) 3,3'-coupling of 2-aryl-benzo[b]furans and 2-aryl-benzo[b]thiophenes up to 92% yield as demonstrated with 9 substrates. Based on the analysis of oxidation potentials and molecular orbitals combined with EPR, NMR and UV-Vis observations, the studied reaction is initiated by a DDQ-substrate charge transfer complex and presumably proceeds via oxidation of the substrate into an electrophilic radical cation that further reacts with another molecule of a neutral substrate. Stabilized Naked Sub-nanometric Cu Clusters within a Polymeric Film Catalyze C-N, C-C, C-O, C-S, and C-P Bond-Forming Reactions

[EN] Sub-nanometric Cu clusters formed by endogenous reduction of Cu salts and Cu nanoparticles are active and selective catalysts for C−N, C−C, C−O, C−S, and C−P bond-forming reactions. Sub-nanometric Cu clusters have also been generated within a polymeric film and stored with full stability for months. In this way, they are ready to be used on demand and maintain high activity (TONs up to 104 ) and selectivity for the above reactions. A potential mechanism for the formation of the sub-nanometric clusters and their electronic nature is presented.

Sleep has traditionally been recognized as a precipitating factor for some forms of epilepsy, although differential diagnosis between some seizure types and parasomnias may be difficult. Autosomal dominant frontal lobe epilepsy is characterized by nocturnal seizures with hyperkinetic automatisms and poorly organized stereotyped movements and has been associated with mutations of the α4 and β2 subunits of the neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptor. Prostasomes are small vesicles, containing zinc, secreted by prostate in human seminal plasma and showing a physiological role on sperm properties. In this study, the possible correspondence between prostasomes and a prostatic high molecular weight protein complex, recently indicated as zinc ligand, has been investigated. Isolated prostasomes, examined by scanning electron microscopy, were dialysed to evaluate their zinc binding capacity. Furthermore, seminal plasma Sephadex G-75 elution was carried out before and after prostasome removal. International audience; Unequally functionalized ferrocenes give access to valuable hemilabile reactivity in catalytic reaction. We address the synthesis of hybrid (P, N)-ferrocenyl compounds for which recent catalytic breakthrough applications have been reported, transversely in late transition metals chemistry. Palladium, nickel, rhodium, iridium, and emerging iron and gold catalysis are illustrated from selected examples, which include CC bond formation from cross-coupling and polymerization, allylic substitution, cyanation, hydroformylation, CH arylation and silylation and hydrogenation reactions.

International audience; The catalytic properties of rhodium complexes containing the α-, β-, or γ-amino-phosphane ligands Ph2PCH2NEt2 (α-P,N-1), Ph2PCH(Ar)NHPh [α-P,N-2; Ar = η6(o-C6H4Cl)Cr(CO)3], Ph2PCH2NPh2 (α-P,N-3), Ph2PCH2CH(Ph)NHPh (β-P,N), Ph2PCH2(o-C6H4–NMe2) (γ-P,N-1), Ph2PCH(o-C6H4–CH2NHPh) (γ-P,N-2), and the α,β-diamino-phosphane ligand Et2NCH2P(Ph)CH2CH(Ph)NHPh (α,β-N,P,N), in styrene hydroformylation have been examined. The results show that the activity increases when the number of backbone carbon atoms linking P and N decreases from 3 to 1. International audience; In previous work, we have demonstrated that the dangling amino group in amino-phosphane ligands increases the rate of Rh-catalyzed styrene hydroformylation as a function of the amino group basicity and of the distance between the P and N functions. We now report additional stereochemical and mechanistic insights resulting from new catalytic experiments performed with Rh-α-P,N catalytic systems in the presence of D2O. In addition to the expected D0 product, the formation of the β-D1 aldehyde, PhCH(CH2D)CHO was observed in all cases by 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy, indicating that H/D exchange occurs for the rhodium-hydride complex. Abstract The reaction of [ Cp 2 ′ Nb ( Te 2 ) H ] ( 1 ) (Cp′ = t -BuC 5 H 4 ) with CH 3 Li in THF was examined by variable temperature 1 H NMR, ESR and mass spectroscopic means. From these methods it is evident that the diamagnetic compounds [ Cp 2 ′ NbH 2 ( TeCH 3 ) ] ( 2 ) and [ Cp 2 ′ Nb ( Te ) CH 3 ] ( 3 ) as well as the paramagnetic compound [ Cp 2 ′ Nb ( TeCH 3 ) 2 ] ( 4 ) form simultaneously. In the subsequent reaction of the intermediate solution with [Co 2 (CO) 8 ] compound 4 was consumed and the compound [ Cp 2 ′ Nb ( μ - TeCH 3 ) 2 Co(CO) 2 ] ( 5 ) formed in good yield. With the aim to explore the effects of different organometallic ligands on the reactivity and biological properties of a series of twelve heteroleptic AuI complexes, of general formula [Au(NHC)(alkynyl)] (NHC = benzimidazolylidene or 1,3-dihydroimidazolylidene) were synthesized and characterized by 1H and 13C NMR and elemental analysis, and in some cases also by X-ray diffraction.
