Architectures for a creative city
2015
The particular attention to the creative regeneration of the abandoned spaces is the core of the book, that orients the attention to the opposition between Tradition and Innovation, focusing on the transformation of architectural, urban and territorial contexts in terms of recovering and reuse of the resources. Starting from the urban creativity is opened Milano Expo main event 2015, with a constant relationship, both real and virtual, on the contamination among architecture and resources’ use. In this line, the theme chosen for the International Exhibition «Feeding the Planet. Energy for Life» is a reference corner-stone, assuming the architectural and urban design as more and more tied wi…
TARJETA TURÍSTICA SAFETY AND SECURITY: EL PASAPORTE PARA TURISTAS Y DESTINOS SEGUROS
2020
The health emergency caused b…
Insight into the noble crayfish morphological diversity: a geometric morphometric approach.
2022
The noble crayfish (Astacus astacus), a keystone species of high ecological, economic, and cultural importance in Europe, is threatened due to a long-term population decline caused by anthropogenic pressure on its habitats, the presence of non-indigenous invasive crayfish species and climate change. Since the effective protection of the remaining populations requires conservation measures based on the comprehensive knowledge of the species, including good understanding of its genetic and morphological variability, our aim was to study morphological features of the noble crayfish in Croatia using geometric morphometrics for the first time. We applied two-dimensional geometric morphometrics t…
Attractiveness and dynamism. Rediscovery of an enchanting Sicilian landscape between nature, myth and archeology
2018
Sicily has always been a favorite destination for tourists and travelers, but also writers, painters and photographers who, at different moments and with subjective experiences, have described history, city development, architectures and the beauty of the landscape. A landscape that has been and continues to be, a source of inspiration for artists, poets and writers of all ages and origins. Our focus is on the rediscovery of the magical landscape of the Kolymbethra Garden, within the Archaeological and Landscape Park of the Valley of the Temples of Agrigento, a UNESCO world heritage site. Through a multidisciplinary approach, we want to know the value and varieties of the historic agrarian …
Destination Attractiveness Drivers among Urban Hostel Tourists: An Analysis of Frustrators and Delighters
2015
This study is based on data from 679 tourists staying at hostel accommodation facilities in Zagreb, a propulsive city-break destination in Central Europe. Besides providing insight into the socio-demographic and behavioural characteristics of hostel tourists, this study uncovers determinant destination attributes influencing their perceptions of destination attractiveness. In particular, impact asymmetry analysis identified potential sources of delight and frustration among hostel tourists. Since the hostel tourist segment, as such, is almost completely unconsidered in contemporary tourism research, partly covered only by a few studies on youth travellers and backpackers, the results of thi…
The Garden and Landscape as an Interdisciplinary Resource Between Experimental Science and Artistic-Musical Expression: Analysis of Competence Develo…
2020
The garden is a major educational resource that can be used for all areas of knowledge from an interdisciplinary perspective as it reflects the complexity and interactions of the natural environment. This research was carried out in the academic years 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 with 418 participants of from the second, third, and fourth year of the Degree in Primary Education at the University of Valencia. The use of the garden and the landscape is analyzed as a non-formal context for training primary school teachers through sensory experiences that contribute to the development of scientific and artistic competencies. The study focused on the relationship between natural sounds and emotions t…

Incubation and hatching periods in a Mediterranean Great Tit Parus major population
2014
Capsule The onset of incubation relative to clutch completion is highly variable in Great Tits Parus major, and has important consequences for the duration of the incubation and hatching periods.Aim To investigate when incubation starts relative to clutch completion, its effects on the length of the incubation and hatching periods, and which proximate factors affect all of these traits. Methods We used data from a Great Tit population in Eastern Spain collected over 15 years. Periodic visits to the nests (daily at some stages) allowed the determination of breeding parameters of interest. General linear models were used for analyses. Results On average, incubation started the day of laying of …
Aspects of the breeding ecology of Rufous Bush RobinsCercotrichas galactotesin southeast Spain
1988
The breeding ecology of Rufous Bush Robin Cercotrichas galactotes was studied over 4 years in southeast Spain. The vegetation of the study area was made up mainly of Olives, Almonds and small shrubs. The density of this species decreased from 0.36 pairs 10 ha-1 in 1980 to 0.7 pairs 10 ha-1 in 1984, a decrease similar to one observed in other parts of Spain. The breeding season lasted from late May or early June to late August. About two-thirds of the pairs laid 2 clutches. Mean clutch size was 3.6 eggs. The incubation period lasted about 13 days and nestlings left the nest after 10 days. Mortality was greater in first clutches, mainly because of predation, which did not occur in second clut…
The sanitation service of seagrasses – Dependencies and implications for the estimation of avoided costs
2022
Seagrasses are capable of sanitizing coastal seawaters polluted by fecal bacteria. In this work, the reduction of Enterococci concentration in the presence of a seagrasses’ assemblage (Pacific Ocean) was related to the decrease in the probability of gastroenteritis. A linear model fitted to data extracted from the literature showed a 20% reduction of this probability in the presence of these plants. Seagrass sanitation effect was estimated to allow avoiding ca. 24 million gastroenteritis cases/year, globally. Considering a global cost of gastroenteritis of ca. US$ 372 million/year, the global avoided cost, assuming that the sanitation service was always effective, was estimated to be ca. US…
