An exact, complete and efficient implementation for computing planar maps of quadric intersection curves
2005
We present the first exact, complete and efficient implementation that computes for a given set P=p1,...,pn of quadric surfaces the planar map induced by all intersection curves p1∩ pi, 2 ≤ i ≤ n, running on the surface of p1. The vertices in this graph are the singular and x-extreme points of the curves as well as all intersection points of pairs of curves. Two vertices are connected by an edge if the underlying points are connected by a branch of one of the curves. Our work is based on and extends ideas developed in [20] and [9].Our implementation is complete in the sense that it can handle all kind of inputs including all degenerate ones where intersection curves have singularities or pa…
Complete, Exact and Efficient Implementation for Computing the Adjacency Graph of an Arrangement of Quadrics
2007
The original publication is available at www.springerlink.com ; ISBN 978-3-540-75519-7 ; ISSN 0302-9743 (Print) 1611-3349 (Online); International audience; We present a complete, exact and efficient implementation to compute the adjacency graph of an arrangement of quadrics, \ie surfaces of algebraic degree~2. This is a major step towards the computation of the full 3D arrangement. We enhanced an implementation for an exact parameterization of the intersection curves of two quadrics, such that we can compute the exact parameter value for intersection points and from that the adjacency graph of the arrangement. Our implementation is {\em complete} in the sense that it can handle all kinds of…
A weak comparison principle for solutions of very degenerate elliptic equations
2012
We prove a comparison principle for weak solutions of elliptic quasilinear equations in divergence form whose ellipticity constants degenerate at every point where \(\nabla u\in K\), where \(K\subset \mathbb{R }^N\) is a Borel set containing the origin.
Maximal regularity for Kolmogorov operators in L2 spaces with respect to invariant measures
2006
Abstract We prove an optimal embedding result for the domains of Kolmogorov (or degenerate hypoelliptic Ornstein–Uhlenbeck) operators in L 2 spaces with respect to invariant measures. We use an interpolation method together with optimal L 2 estimates for the space derivatives of T ( t ) f near t = 0 , where T ( t ) is the Ornstein–Uhlenbeck semigroup and f is any function in L 2 .
MAPPINGS OF FINITE DISTORTION: $L^n \log^{\alpha} L$ -INTEGRABILITY
2003
Recently, systematic studies of mappings of finite distortion have emerged as a key area in geometric function theory. The connection with deformations of elastic bodies and regularity of energy minimizers in the theory of nonlinear elasticity is perhaps a primary motivation for such studies, but there are many other applications as well, particularly in holomorphic dynamics and also in the study of first order degenerate elliptic systems, for instance the Beltrami systems we consider here.
Lomitapide: a novel drug for homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia
2014
Lomitapide (Juxtapid® and Lojuxta®; Aegerion Pharmaceuticals, Inc., MA, USA), an orally administered inhibitor of the microsomal triglyceride transfer protein, inhibits the synthesis and secretion of ApoB-containing lipoproteins and, thus, reduces plasma levels of LDL cholesterol (LDL-C). Lomitapide has been approved for the therapy of homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia patients. After a proof-of-concept Phase II trial, lomitapide has been tested in a multinational single-arm, open-label, 78-week, Phase III trial. Lomitapide effectively reduced mean plasma LDL-C levels by 50% from baseline in 23 adults with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia over a 26-week treatment period and t…
Therapeutic options for homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia: the role of Lomitapide
2020
Background:Lomitapide (Juxtapid® in US and Lojuxta® in Europe) is the first developed inhibitor of the Microsomal Triglyceride Transfer Protein (MTP) approved as a novel drug for the management of Homozygous Familial Hypercholesterolemia (HoFH). It acts by binding directly and selectively to MTP thus decreasing the assembly and secretion of the apo-B containing lipoproteins both in the liver and in the intestine.Aims:The present review aims at summarizing the recent knowledge on lomitapide in the management of HoFH.Results:The efficacy and safety of lomitapide have been evaluated in several trials and it has been shown a reduction of the plasma levels of Low-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol …
Lomitapide does not alter PCSK9 and Lp(a) levels in homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia patients: analysis on cytokines and lipid profile
2021
Abstract Lomitapide, a drug for the treatment of homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia patients, reduced total and LDL cholesterol but no significant changes were observed on PCSK9 and Lp(a) plasma levels. Some changes of inflammatory mediators were also observed, including hsCRP, which may suggest an anti-inflammatory effect.
Shape and size in phytoplankton ecology: do they matter?
2007
This paper summarises the outcomes of the 14th Workshop of the International Association of Phytoplankton Taxonomy and Ecology (IAP). The authors mostly addressed their contributions on the following topics: morphological and morpho-functional descriptors of phytoplankton, size and shape structure of phytoplankton related to different kinds of environmental variables and the role of morphological and physiological plasticity of phytoplankton in maintaining the (apparently) same populations under different environmental conditions. Case studies from different kinds of aquatic environments (deep and shallow lakes, reservoirs with different age, purpose and trophic state, floodplain wetlands m…
Risk Profiles for Re-Profiling the Sovereign Debt of Crisis Countries
2014
This paper uses a risk-management approach to re-profile the sovereign debt of countries facing debt crises. Using scenario analysis we develop a risk measure of the sovereign's debt -- Conditional Debt-at-Risk -- and an optimization model is used to trace risk profiles that tradeoff expected cost of debt financing against the Conditional Debt-at-Risk. The risk profiles are particularly informative for crisis countries, as they allow us to identify, with high-probability, debt unsustainability. We develop risk profiles for two Eurozone countries with excessive debt, Cyprus and Italy, both in their current form and under various forms of restructuring or rescheduling, and show how to assess …
