Modeling by the finite element method of acoustic radiation in waveguides lined with locally or non locally reacting absorbent materials in the prese…
2011
Our concern in this work is the problem of acoustic propagation in guides lined with locally or non locally reacting materials with the presence of mean fluid flow. In several industrial systems such as aircraft jet engines, mufflers exhaust and ventilation systems, noise is mostly channeled outside by guides of more or less complex geometries. A study of waveguides makes it possible to predict and understand the physical phenomena such as refraction, convection, absorption and wave attenuation. In waveguides studies, guides are often considered infinitely long to get rid of some phenomena (reflection for example) at their ends. Solving the problem of acoustic propagation in infinite guides…
Presentations of constrained systems with unconstrained positions
2005
International audience; We give a polynomial-time construction of the set of sequences that satisfy a finite-memory constraint defined by a finite list of forbidden blocks, with a specified set of bit positions unconstrained. Such a construction can be used to build modulation/error-correction codes (ECC codes) like the ones defined by the Immink-Wijngaarden scheme in which certain bit positions are reserved for ECC parity. We give a lineartime construction of a finite-state presentation of a constrained system defined by a periodic list of forbidden blocks. These systems, called periodic-finite-type systems, were introduced by Moision and Siegel. Finally, we present a linear-time algorithm for con…
Synchronization and fluctuations for interacting stochastic systems with individual and collective reinforcement
2020
The Pólya urn is the paradigmatic example of a reinforced stochastic process. It leads to a random (non degenerated) time-limit. The Friedman urn is a natural generalization whose a.s. time-limit is not random anymore. In this work, in the stream of previous recent works, we introduce a new family of (finite) systems of reinforced stochastic processes, interacting through an additional collective reinforcement of mean field type. The two reinforcement rules strengths (one componentwise, one collective) are tuned through (possibly) different rates n −γ. In the case the reinforcement rates are like n −1 , these reinforcements are of Pólya or Friedman type as in urn contexts and may thus lead …
Statistics of transitions for Markov chains with periodic forcing
2013
The influence of a time-periodic forcing on stochastic processes can essentially be emphasized in the large time behaviour of their paths. The statistics of transition in a simple Markov chain model permits to quantify this influence. In particular the first Floquet multiplier of the associated generating function can be explicitly computed and related to the equilibrium probability measure of an associated process in higher dimension. An application to the stochastic resonance is presented.
Statistical consequences of the Devroye inequality for processes. Applications to a class of non-uniformly hyperbolic dynamical systems
2005
In this paper, we apply Devroye inequality to study various statistical estimators and fluctuations of observables for processes. Most of these observables are suggested by dynamical systems. These applications concern the co-variance function, the integrated periodogram, the correlation dimension, the kernel density estimator, the speed of convergence of empirical measure, the shadowing property and the almost-sure central limit theorem. We proved in \cite{CCS} that Devroye inequality holds for a class of non-uniformly hyperbolic dynamical systems introduced in \cite{young}. In the second appendix we prove that, if the decay of correlations holds with a common rate for all pairs of functio…
Observation of the suppression of the flux of cosmic rays above 4x10^19eV
2008
The energy spectrum of cosmic rays above 2.5 × 10¹⁸ eV, derived from 20,000 events recorded at the Pierre Auger Observatory, is described. The spectral index γ of the particle flux, J ∝ E-γ, at energies between 4 × 10¹⁸ eV and 4 × 10¹⁹ eV is 2.69 ± 0.02(stat) ± 0.06(syst), steepening to 4.2 ± 0.4(stat) ± 0.06(syst) at higher energies. The hypothesis of a single power law is rejected with a significance greater than 6 standard deviations. The data are consistent with the prediction by Greisen and by Zatsepin and Kuz'min.
Spatial processes driving soil microbial community assembly on a wide scale
2012
International audience; Soil houses a huge biodiversity involved in ecological services through microbial community assembly. However, processes driving soil microbial community assembly are still scarcely understood, particularly the relative importance of environmental heterogeneity regarding to dispersal limitations. This can be achieved through studying the determinism of taxa-area relationship (TAR, how community composition change with geographic distance), a fundamental relationship in ecology. Here, a biogeographical approach was applied on a wide scale to evaluate TAR for soil bacterial and fungal communities and to partition their spatial variations into environmental heterogeneit…
