Non-Local Transport in a Multi-Wall Carbon Nanotube
2001
Non-local electric transport phenomena were observed for a multi-wall carbon nanotube. The magnetic field dependence of non-local resistance was out of phase with respect to the conventional four-probe resistance, which could be explained in terms of the Landauer-Buttiker formula. Our observations indicate that the phase coherence length of multi-wall carbon nanotube exceeds the voltage probe length of about 1.1 µm at the measured temperatures.

Heterogeneity in shore flies – the case ofGlenantheHaliday (Diptera: Ephydridae) in the Old World
2011
Abstract Old World species of the genus Glenanthe are treated comprehensively with an emphasis on the unusually diverse morphological heterogeneity discovered in structures of the male terminalia. As perspective for this treatment, the tribe Lipochaetini, in which Glenanthe is placed, is characterized and discussed, and an annotated key to the four included genera is provided to facilitate their identification. Glenanthe is demonstrated to be a monophyletic lineage within Lipochaetini. Seven Old World species of Glenanthe are now known, including two new Afrotropical species as follows (type locality in parenthesis): G. namibia n. sp. (Namibia. Mukwe: Divuju: Okavango River [18°04’04”S, 21°…
Application of a model for the evaluation of the “Visitor Satisfaction” in a nature reserve of South Italy
2017
The protected natural area represents an important resource because from it sustainable and long-lasting social and economic development processes can start. In fact, the conservation of biodiversity can help create economic values by using natural capital which, if properly valorised, can help the momentum of local sustainable development and create diffuse welfare in terms of employment and income. To such a purpose, the evaluation both of the demand by those who enjoy the services of a protected area and of the level of satisfaction that visitors draw from their experience becomes a priority. The present study aims at investigating the behaviour and the preferences of the visitors to a p…
Minimally invasive interval debulking surgery in ovarian neoplasm (MISSION trial–NCT02324595): a feasibility study
2016
Background Laparoscopy has acquired an increasing role in the management of ovarian cancer. Laparoscopic cytoreduction could represent a new frontier for selected patients after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT). Objective We sought to assess feasibility and early complication rate of minimally invasive (MI) interval debulking surgery (IDS) in stage III-IV epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) patients after NACT. Study Design This is a phase II multicentric study in advanced EOC cases with clinical complete response after NACT, according to Gynecologic Cancer Intergroup and Response Evaluation Criteria In Solid Tumors criteria. Institutional review board approval was obtained and all patients sign…
Multiplicity and history have a detrimental effect on survival in patients with T1G3 bladder tumors selected for conservative treatment.
2008
Purpose: In the absence of Tis tumor we assessed whether history and multiplicity have a detrimental effect on conservative treatment in carefully selected patients with T1G3 bladder carcinoma. Materials and Methods: Between January 1976 and December 1999, 165 select patients with T1G3 bladder tumors were conservatively treated with transurethral resection plus adjuvant intravesical therapy. Patients with concomitant or previous Tis, previous T1G3, tumor size greater than 3 cm and more than 3 lesions were excluded from analysis. Repeat transurethral resection was not routinely performed. However, cytology had to be negative for atypia before the start of adjuvant intravesical therapy. Resul…
Oncologic outcome and continence recovery after laparoscopic radical prostatectomy: 3 years' follow-up in a "second generation center".
2006
Objectiues: Laparoscopic radical prostatectomy in major centers guarantees oncologic and functional results equal to open procedures. In our institution this operation was introduced in 2001 after an adequate training in laparoscopic surgery. We report the oncologic and functional results after 3 years of experience. Methods: We considered our first 150 patients that had undergone transperitoneal laparoscopic radical prostatectomy. The following parameters were prospectively collected and analyzed: pathological findings, surgical margins, surgical time, blood loss, hospital stay, catheterization, complications, oncologic follow-up and continence. Results: Single positive surgical margins were…
Intravesical bleomycin in bladder tumour prophylaxis.
1986
The authors have evaluated the efficacy, tolerability and systemic absorption of bleomycin administered by intravesical route in the prophylaxis of recurrences of superficial vesical tumours after endoscopic resection (TUR). Thirty mg of bleomycin dissolved in 30 ml of saline solution were instilled in the bladder once a week for the first month and then once a month for 12 months. The instilled fluid was held in the bladder for 1 hour. The systemic absorption of the drug was evaluated by a microbiological assay of bleomycin in plasma and in the perfusion liquid recovered from the bladder. Fifteen patients were treated; most had a long history of multiple recurrent tumours despite previous …
Predictors of oncological outcomes in T1G3 patients treated with BCG who undergo radical cystectomy
2018
PURPOSE: To evaluate the oncological impact of postponing radical cystectomy (RC) to allow further conservative therapies prior to progression in a large multicentre retrospective cohort of T1-HG/G3 patients initially treated with BCG. METHODS: According to the time of RC, the population was divided into 3 groups: patients who did not progress to muscle-invasive disease, patients who progressed before radical cystectomy and patients who experienced progression at the time of radical cystectomy. Clinical and pathological outcomes were compared across the three groups. RESULTS: Of 2451 patients, 509 (20.8%) underwent RC. Patients with tumors > 3 cm or with CIS had earlier cystectomies (HR = 1…
