Effetti spaziali o settoriali?
PREMISES OF GASTRONOMIC TOURISM
2013
Since the competition among tourism destinations has risen, local culture has developed into a competitive advantage and a priceless resource of new products and services to attract and captivate tourists. Gastronomy plays a vital role in the process of attracting tourists because food has an important part in the tourist experience, plus gastronomy developed over the year's styles and tastes and become a critical source of establishing patterns in postmodern civilization.
Politics and the ‘Ideology’ of Journalism in Romania: Results from Local Case Studies
2011
Abstract The paper approaches the ‘ideology’ of Romanian post-communist journalism as identified in local news media organisations. We focus on the practical philosophy of journalism, emphasizing elements such as autonomy, truth, objectivity; and the relationship of journalists and news organisations with political actors. Special attention is given to the interplay between this practical philosophy and the political and economic constraints influencing news media organisations in Romania. We approach this topic using in-depth interviews with journalists and editors from news media organisations in three Romanian cities. We argue that two different ‘ideologies’ of journalism as a profession…

Biocultural conflicts: understanding complex interconnections between a traditional ceremony and threatened carnivores in north Kenya
2022
Abstract Biological and cultural diversity are inextricably linked and rapidly eroding worldwide. As a response, many conservation efforts foster synergies between cultural and biological diversity agendas through biocultural approaches. However, such approaches do not always address biocultural conflicts, where certain cultural practices can lead to biodiversity loss and, in turn, threaten the continuance of such practices. In this study, we examined a biocultural conflict in the Dimi ceremony, the most important rite of passage of the Daasanach agro-pastoralists of north Kenya, in which skins from threatened carnivore species are used extensively as traditional ornaments. We quantified th…
The Participation of Local Communities to the Landscape Planning: a Controversial Path in Sicily
2013
The European Landscape Convention (Florence, 2000) foresees the integration of landscape into town planning policies and spatial planning (Art.5.d). However, landscape protection instruments (landscape plans), that are active today in many European countries, particularly in Italy), almost always take sectorial value, hierarchically prevailing to other planning tools and evading the democratic process of sharing with local communities. In relation to these considerations, the present paper focuses on the results of a critical reading of an experience of landscape planning in Sicily: the Landscape Plan of the Specific Area 8 in the Messina’s province. In this area the Nebrodi local community…
