Rains of solitons in a figure-of-eight passively mode-locked fiber laser

International audience; We report experimental observation of rains of solitons in figure-of-eight fiber laser passively mode-locked through nonlinear optical loop mirror. Soliton pulses are created from an extended noisy background and drift until they reach a condensed phase comprising several tens of aggregated solitons. The observation of this dynamics tends to strengthen the idea of the universality of the collective behavior of solitons.

Application of the collective coordinate method to the analysis of the dynamics of mode-locked fiber lasers

Mode-locked fiber laser are among the few systems that allow to achieve a variety of elaborate optical functions, by means of few optical components. The use of dispersion management brings to this type of lasers a variety of behaviors, which is so rich that the complete mapping and detailed analysis of the stable states becomes impractical when conventional tools based on the intra-cavity field propagation equations, are used. In this thesis we show that the addition of the technique ofcollective coordinates to the conventional theoretical tools, allows to solve at least in part the problem of complexity and diversity of the stable states of the cavity. Coherent master equation for laser modelocking

Modelocked lasers constitute the fundamental source of optically-coherent ultrashort-pulsed radiation, with huge impact in science and technology. Their modeling largely rests on the master equation (ME) approach introduced in 1975 by Hermann A. Haus. However, that description fails when the medium dynamics is fast and, ultimately, when light-matter quantum coherence is relevant. Here we set a rigorous and general ME framework, the coherent ME (CME), that overcomes both limitations. Abstract The rapid growth of e-commerce has led to an increase of home delivery requests. Providing efficient distribution systems for services on the last mile has become a challenging issue for logistics companies, where a trade-off between the classical approaches, attended home delivery (AHD) and usage of shared delivery locations (SDLs) has been identified. Synthetic approach to the design of wide-band microwave injection-locked amplifiers

In this work, a synthesis-based approach to the realization of wide-band microwave injection-locked amplifiers (ILA) is proposed. To this purpose, a transmission-type topology is combined with a feedback structure in which the "core ILA" is intentionally separated from the output (power) amplifier. A modular, matched, design of individual building blocks of the core ILA is then adopted, which allows their first-approximation exact modeling in the dynamical complex-envelope domain, following the theory earlier developed by Calandra-Sommariva. In this work, an attempt is made toward the development of a systematic design method for the performance- driven dimensioning of the various elements comprising the structure of modern transistor-based microwave injection- locked oscillators with transmission-type topologies (TILOs).
