Variations of lipid and apolipoprotein content in lipoproteins during fasting in European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax L.)

Lipoproteins are involved in transport of exogenous and endogenous lipids. For this reason, the lipoprotein pattern undergoes drastic variation during fasting. In D. labrax, observed variations concern, the relative content of the five lipoproteins and their composition, both in lipid and apolipoprotein content. These data indicate the presence of a cascade mechanism of maturation involving very-low-density lipoprotein, (VLDL), low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-1 and LDL-2. Stranded jellyfish in the lowermost Cambrian (Corduban) of Spain

Ninety discoid structures of big size occurring on a bedding plane of Nemakit-Daldynian to Tommotian sandstones (i.e. Corduban in the Spanish scale of Cambrian stages) from south-western Spain are described. Cross-cutting relationships between discoid structures and associated trace fossils, as well as evidence for penecontemporaneous deformation of sediment laminae below the discoids, permit to interprete these structures as impressions of ancient, soft-bodied marine organisms. Inducing Strong Non-Linearities in a Phonon Trapping Quartz Bulk Acoustic Wave Resonator Coupled to a Superconducting Quantum Interference Device

International audience; A quartz Bulk Acoustic Wave resonator is designed to coherently trap phonons in such a way that they are well confined and immune to suspension losses so they exhibit extremely high acoustic Q-factors at low temperature, with Q × f products of order 10¹⁸ Hz. In this work we couple such a resonator to a Superconducting Quantum Interference Device (SQUID) amplifier and investigate effects in the strong signal regime. Both parallel and series connection topologies of the system are investigated. On the dynamics of the AB Doradus system

We present an astrometric analysis of the binary systems ABDorA /ABDorC and ABDorBa / ABDorBb. These two systems of well-known late-type stars are gravitationally associated and they constitute the quadruple ABDoradus system. From the astrometric data available at different wavelengths, we report: (i) a determination of the orbit of ABDorC, the very low mass companion to ABDorA, which confirms the mass estimate of 0.090Msun reported in previous works; (ii) a measurement of the parallax of ABDorBa, which unambiguously confirms the long-suspected physical association between this star and ABDorA; and (iii) evidence of orbital motion of ABDorBa around ABDorA, which places an upper bound of 0.4…

Volatiles in pantellerite magmas: A case study of the Green Tuff Plinian eruption (Island of Pantelleria, Italy)

Abstract The Green Tuff (GT) Plinian eruption, the largest in magnitude at Pantelleria, erupted 3 to 7 km3 DRE of pantellerite magma and a small volume of trachyte. Fifty-nine anorthoclase-hosted melt inclusions from the two basal pumice members were analyzed by FT-IR spectroscopy in order to assess the pre-eruptive H2O content in the pantellerite melt. Microanalytical methods were used to determine major element, Cl, F and S contents. Melt inclusions and glassy groundmasses have a nearly homogeneous pantelleritic composition (peralkaline index = 1.9-2.2) and variable water contents ranging from 1.4 to as high as 4.2 wt %, i.e. much higher than the 1.4 wt % of earlier published studies. The chlorine content is constant at about 1 wt %. Combined Cl and H2O data were used to estimate a confining pressure of about 50 MPa (depth around 2-3 km) for the GT magma chamber. The chamber was characterized by a compositional zoning with a dominant pantellerite overlying a trachyte magma. Soon after the GT eruption intra-caldera volcanism was dominated by the eruption of voluminous trachyte lavaflows while pantellerite melt production resumed after about 20 ka with numerous low-volume mildly explosive (Strombolian) to effusive eruptions. Comparison with data from the literature reveals that despite the differentexplosivity the post-caldera Strombolian eruptions and the GT Plinian eruption were fed by pantelleritic magmas with similar water contents. Small-angle x-ray scattering experiments for investigating the validity of the two-phase model

A New method for evaluating SAXS curves of polymer samples with lamellar structure is applied to two typical scattering curves measured with a solution-crystallized linear polyethylene and a melt-crystallized branched polyethylene respectively. The method permits a rigorous check of the validity of the two-phase model and yields, without additional measurement, the volume fractions of the two phases and the difference in their densities. The densities can than be obtained by measuring the overall density of the sample. A Linear Programming Method for Bounding Plastic Deformations

A method for providing upper and lower bounds to plastic deformations is presented, which has the feature of being applicable both below and above the structure shakedown limit. The bounds provided are expressed in terms of some fictitious plastic strains obeying relaxed yielding laws, whose evaluation is made by means of a suitable LP-based algorithm.
