Adaptive neural state-feedback stabilizing controller for nonlinear systems with mismatched uncertainty
2014
In this paper, an adaptive neural network (NN) state-feedback controller for a class of nonlinear systems with mismatched uncertainties is presented. By using a radial basis (RBF) neural network, a bound of unknown nonlinear functions is approximated so that no information about the upper bound of mismatched uncertainties is required. The state-feedback is based on Lyapunov stability theory, and it is shown that the asymptotic convergence of the closed-loop system to zero is achieved while maintaining bounded states at the same time. The presented methods are more general than the previous approaches, handling systems with no restriction on the dimension of the system and the number of inpu…
Gastropods from upper Pliensbachian–Toarcian (Lower Jurassic) sediments of Causses Basin, southern France and their recovery after the early Toarcian…
2015
AbstractA gastropod fauna has been studied from upper Pliensbachian – upper Toarcian deposits of two sections of the Causses Basin (southern France) in order to investigate the mode of recovery after the early Toarcian anoxic event. The fauna consists of 15 species, one of which is new (Bathrotomaria kronzwilmesorumsp. nov.). Their stratigraphical distribution shows two peaks of diversity – in the Bifrons Zone (Bifrons Subzone) and in the Aalensis Zone (Mactra Subzone) – which reflect brief times during which the oxygen content and bottom consistency favoured the settlement of a relatively diversified fauna. In the Variabilis–Pseudoradiosa zones, gastropods are only represented by two speci…
Overexpression of cyclin D1 and interaction between p27Kip1 and tumour thickness predict lymph node metastases occurrence in lower lip squamous cell …
2005
We have attempted to identify those subgroups of patients most likely to develop lymph node metastases from squamous cell carcinoma of the lower lip (LLSSC). A total of 97 subjects, who did not undergo elective neck dissection, were recruited into the 60-month disease-free survival study. After univariate analysis, tumour size, histological grading, maximal thickness, perineural invasion and immunoreactivity to cyclin D1 and p27Kip1 proteins proved to be significant factors. Tests of the effect of interaction between p27Kip1 LI and tumour thickness yielded that the impact of tumour thickness on the risk of lymph node metastases was modified by the percentage of p27Kip1 positive cells. Subse…
Early-life weight gain, prematurity, and asthma development.
2014
Early childhood asthma is a clinical syndrome, the development and clinical manifestations of which result from a complex interplay among airway anatomy, physiology, and inflammation. Although multiple phenotypes of early childhood wheezing and asthma have been described, the mechanisms that promote and differentiate these phenotypes remain poorly understood. Over the past decade, substantial understanding has emerged as to the early-life factors that influence childhood asthma development. One area of great interest has been the relationships between patterns of fetal and infant growth, subsequent wheezing, and asthma. Although several studies strongly suggest that intrauterine growth patt…
Noradrenaline depleting and blood pressure lowering activity of threo-corbadrine
1968
Abstract Threo-corbadrine caused a long-lasting depletion of noradrenaline in the heart and in mesenteric vessels and lowered the blood pressure of normal and renal hypertensive rats. It is suggested that threo-cobadrine decreases vascular tone by acting peripherally as a substitute adrenergic transmitter.
Clinical course of patients with symptomatic isolated superficial vein thrombosis: the ICARO follow‐up study
2017
Essentials Late sequelae of isolated superficial vein thrombosis (iSVT) have rarely been investigated. We studied 411 consecutive outpatients with acute iSVT with a median follow-up of three years. Male sex and cancer are risk factors for future deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism. Patients without cancer appear to be at a negligible risk for death. SUMMARY Background Studies of long-term thromboembolic complications and death following acute isolated superficial vein thrombosis (iSVT) of the lower extremities are scarce. Objectives To investigate the course of iSVT in the setting of an observational multicenter study. Methods We collected longitudinal data of 411 consecutive outpati…
An innovative lipid-lowering approach to enhance attainment of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol goals
2020
Aims To improve attainment of LDL-cholesterol (LDL-c) targets, an expert group proposed an algorithm for lipid-lowering therapy during hospitalization for acute coronary syndrome and during follow-up. We aimed to assess adherence to this algorithm, and evaluate its impact on LDL-c levels and on attainment of therapeutic LDL-c targets in a population of post-acute coronary syndrome patients. Methods and results Prospective, observational study including patients admitted for acute coronary syndrome between February 2017 and September 2018. Patients admitted without statins or ezetimibe were considered ‘naïve’. Baseline LDL-c was admission LDL-c in naïve patients, and for those taking lipid-…
Gracilis free muscle transfer for morpho-functional reconstruction of the lower lip.
2007
Background. Large full-thickness defects of the lower lip need free tissue transfer. The free forearm flap is the more widespread technique for free flap lower lip reconstruction, but it results in a static lip. The authors describe a technique of morphodynamic sensate reconstruction of the lower lip with a free gracilis flap and a musculomucosal flap. Methods. Three patients underwent reconstruction with an innervated free muscular gracilis flap, an innervated musculo-mucosal flap for the vermillion (2 cases), and a full-thickness skin graft. Results. No significant complications were observed. Static function and vermillion sensitivity were immediately restored. The skin color match was e…
Clinical profile of motor neuron disease patients with lower urinary tract symptoms and neurogenic bladder
2017
Introduction: Lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) are frequent in motor neuron disease (MND) patients, but clinical factors related to them are unknown. We describe differences in LUTS among MND phenotypes and their relationship with other clinical characteristics, including prognosis. Methods: For this study, we collected clinical data of a previously published cohort of patients diagnosed with classical amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (cALS), progressive muscular atrophy (PMA) or primary lateral sclerosis (PLS) with and without LUTS. Familial history was recorded and the C9ORF72 expansion was analysed in the entire cohort Patients were followed-up for survival until August 2016. Results: Fi…
Efficacy and safety of a microsomal triglyceride transfer protein inhibitor in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia: a single-arm,…
2013
Summary Background Patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia respond inadequately to existing drugs. We aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of the microsomal triglyceride transfer protein inhibitor lomitapide in adults with this disease. Methods We did a single-arm, open-label, phase 3 study of lomitapide for treatment of patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. Current lipid lowering therapy was maintained from 6 weeks before baseline through to at least week 26. Lomitapide dose was escalated on the basis of safety and tolerability from 5 mg to a maximum of 60 mg a day. The primary endpoint was mean percent change in levels of LDL cholesterol from baseline …
