Laparoscopic surgical management of localized recurrent ovarian cancer: a single-institution experience

2014

Background: Optimally, secondary cytoreduction is acknowledged as a valid option in terms of oncologic outcome for patients with platinum-sensitive recurrent ovarian cancer. In cases of localized relapse, a laparoscopic approach has been attempted at various institutions, but studies on its role for this subset of patients still are limited. This report describes the authors' experience using laparoscopic secondary cytoreduction for patients with localized recurrent ovarian cancer. The results from a retrospective analysis of a prospective case series are reported. Methods: Between October 2011 and May 2013, 29 patients with localized recurrent ovarian cancer were selected for a laparoscopi…

Anatomical distribution of sentinel lymph nodes in patients with endometrial cancer: a multicenter study.

2022

ObjectiveSentinel lymph node (SLN) mapping represents the standard approach in uterine confined endometrial cancer patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the anatomical distribution of SLNs and the most frequent locations of nodal metastasis.MethodsThis was an observational retrospective multicenter study involving eight high volume gynecologic cancer centers in Italy. We reviewed 1576 patients with a histologically confirmed diagnosis of endometrial cancer from September 2015 to June 2020. All patients underwent total hysterectomy with salpingo-ophorectomy and SLN mapping.ResultsA total of 3105 SLNs were mapped and removed, 2809 (90.5%) of these were bilateral and 296 (9.5%) unila…

Evoluzione storica del linfonodo sentinella

2004

The sentinel node is the first lymph node reached by metastasising cells from a primary tumour. Numerous studies have confirmed and demonstrated the reliability of the sentinel node biopsy hypothesis, on account of the high identification rate and overall accuracy of dye-guided and radio-guided procedures. It is remarkable that the concept of lymphatic mapping was not introduced until the end of the twentieth century. The development of the dynamic technique of intraoperative lymphatic mapping in the 1990s resulted in general acceptance of the sentinel node theory. The current literature suggests that sentinel node biopsy may eventually replace axillary dissection as the nodal staging proce…

The sequencing of the complete genome of a Tomato black ring virus (TBRV) and of the RNA2 of three Grapevine chrome mosaic virus (GCMV) isolates from…

2014

The complete genome of a Tomato black ring virus isolate (TBRV-Mirs) (RNA1, 7,366 nt and RNA2, 4,640 nt) and the RNA2 sequences (4,437; 4,445; and 4,442 nts) of three Grapevine chrome mosaic virus isolates (GCMV-H6, -H15, and -H27) were determined. All RNAs contained a single open reading frame encoding polyproteins of 254 kDa (p1) and 149 kDa (p2) for TBRV-Mirs RNA1 and RNA2, respectively, and 146 kDa for GCMV RNA2. p1 of TBRV-Mirs showed the highest identity with TBRV-MJ (94 %), Beet ringspot virus (BRSV, 82 %), and Grapevine Anatolian ringspot virus (GARSV, 66 %), while p2 showed the highest identity with TBRV isolates MJ (89 %) and ED (85 %), followed by BRSV (65 %), GCMV (58 %), and GA…

Cholesterol Starvation and Hypoxia Activate the FVII Gene via the SREBP1-GILZ Pathway in Ovarian Cancer Cells to Produce Procoagulant Microvesicles

2019

AbstractInteraction between the transcription factors, hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF1α and HIF2α) and Sp1, mediates hypoxia-driven expression of FVII gene encoding coagulation factor VII (fVII) in ovarian clear cell carcinoma (CCC) cells. This mechanism is synergistically enhanced in response to serum starvation, a condition possibly associated with tumor hypoxia. This transcriptional response potentially results in venous thromboembolism, a common complication in cancer patients by producing procoagulant extracellular vesicles (EVs). However, which deficient serum factors are responsible for this characteristic transcriptional mechanism is unknown. Here, we report that cholesterol deficien…

Observations on population dynamics of leafhoppers in Western Sicily vineyards

2013

From 2007 to 2009 field observations were carried out in two vineyards (organically and conventionally managed) in Menfi (Agrigento province, Sicily). Population dynamics of two leafhoppers, Jacobiasca lybica (cotton leafhopper) and Zygina rhamni were followed by chromotropic traps and leaf observation in field. Both species were constantly present in vineyards. Z. rhamni did not register statistical differences between the two fields, while J. lybica was mostly present in the conventionally managed field. In this last vineyard for two consecutive years (2007 and 2008) J. lybica population exceeded the intervention threshold of 0.5 leafhopper/leaf. On the other hand, in the organically mana…

The behavioral responses of the egg parasitoid Ooencyrtus telenomicida to semiochemicals from first and second trophic level

2009

In this study the responses of females of the egg parasitoid Ooencyrtus telenomicida (Vassiliev) (Hymenoptera: Encyrtidae) to volatile and contact chemicals from its host Nezara viridula (L.) (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) and from host plant Solanum lycopersicum L. were investigated in a Y-tube olfactometer and in open arena. Our results in the Y-tube olfactometer tests showed that: (1) female wasps were attracted to volatiles from adult host virgin male and to volatiles from a host mated female, showing a clear preference for the volatiles emitted from the former; volatiles from host virgin females did not attract O. telenomicida females; (2) only volatiles produced by host-damaged plant com…

NECREMNUS ARTYNES (WALKER) PARASSITOIDE DI TUTA ABSOLUTA (MEYRICK) SU POMODORO, MELANZANA E SOLANUM NIGRUM L. IN SERRA A CONDUZIONE BIOLOGICA

2011
