Surgical treatment of early breast cancer in day surgery.

2007

Quadrantectomy and associated sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) is currently employed in most breast surgery centres as the gold standard in the treatment of early breast cancer. This approach has a modest morbidity and can usually be performed in a day-surgery regimen, leading to best acceptance by the patients. This reports outlines the experience of our Breast Unit with quadrantectomy and SLNB in day surgery for early breast cancer. One hundred patients presenting to our institution with primary invasive breast cancer measuring less than 3 cm and clinically negative axillary nodes underwent quadrantectomy and SLNB in day surgery. For 60 women with breast cancer the sentinel node was nega…

Robust delay-dependent H∞ control of uncertain time-delay systems with mixed neutral, discrete, and distributed time-delays and Markovian switching p…

2011

Author's version of an article published in the journal: IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems I: Regular Papers. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1109/tcsi.2011.2106090 The problem of robust mode-dependent delayed state feedback H ∞ control is investigated for a class of uncertain time-delay systems with Markovian switching parameters and mixed discrete, neutral, and distributed delays. Based on the LyapunovKrasovskii functional theory, new required sufficient conditions are established in terms of delay-dependent linear matrix inequalities for the stochastic stability and stabilization of the considered system using some free matrices. The desired control is …

A T-bet gradient controls the fate and function of CCR6−RORγt+ innate lymphoid cells

2013

At mucosal surfaces, the immune system should not initiate inflammatory immune responses to the plethora of antigens constantly present in the environment, but should remain poised to unleash a potent assault on intestinal pathogens. The transcriptional programs and regulatory factors required for immune cells to switch from homeostatic (often tissue-protective) function to potent antimicrobial immunity are poorly defined. Mucosal retinoic-acid-receptor-related orphan receptor-γt-positive (RORγt(+)) innate lymphoid cells (ILCs) are emerging as an important innate lymphocyte population required for immunity to intestinal infections. Various subsets of RORγt(+) ILCs have been described but th…

Epidemiology of Mantle Cell Lymphoma: A Population-Based Study in France

2011

Abstract Abstract 5222 Introduction: Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is an aggressive and rare B-cell lymphoma entity representing around 5–8% of non-Hodgkin's lymphomas in adults. To our knowledge no data is available on the epidemiology of MCL in France. We aimed to describe incidence, survival and main clinical characteristics of MCL in a French population. Methods: Patients diagnosed with MCL were identified in three administrative areas covered by an haematological malignancies registry: the Côte d'Or (from 1988 to 2008), the Basse-Normandie (from 1997 to 2006) and the Gironde (from 2002 to 2006). Main clinical features and management characteristics were collected. World age-standardised …

CD49d Expression Identifies a Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) Subset with High Levels of Circulating CD34 +Cells Co-Expressing Endothelial Cell Ma…

2009

Abstract Abstract 2329 Poster Board II-306 Introduction: In chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), CD49d, often in association with CD38, has been shown to mark a disease subset with poor prognosis. Functionally, both molecules act as counter-receptors for surface structures (i.e. VCAM-1/CD106 and CD31) usually expressed by the endothelial/stromal component of tumor micro-environment. We have recently identified a micro-environmental circuitry which involves CD38 triggering, and eventually determines an enrichment of the VCAM-1/CD106-expressing endothelial component detected in the context of CLL infiltrates found in bone marrow biopsies. Data was also provided that CD49d/VCAM-1 interactions a…

Characterisation of gd T cells infiltrating colorectal cancer

2021

We have read with great interest the paper by de Vries et al 1 reporting on the immune landscape of colorectal cancer (CRC) by high-dimensional mass cytometry, flow cytometry and single cell RNA sequencing. Among clusters of immune cells infiltrating CRC, authors have identified two populations of γδ T cells: one programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1)+ population is almost exclusively found in DNA mismatch repair (MMR)-deficient (d) tumours, constitutes up to 8.4% of CD45+ cells and has an activated phenotype, and a PD-1− counterpart with a resting phenotype, which is also found in colorectal normal mucosa and MMR-proficient (p) tumours. Using deconvolution of transcriptomic datasets and si…

Extremely low-frequency magnetic fields and survival from childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia: an international follow-up study

2012

A previous US study reported poorer survival in children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) exposed to extremely low-frequency magnetic fields (ELF–MF) above 0.3 μT, but based on small numbers. Data from 3073 cases of childhood ALL were pooled from prospective studies conducted in Canada, Denmark, Germany, Japan, UK and US to determine death or relapse up to 10 years from diagnosis. Adjusting for known prognostic factors, we calculated hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) for overall survival and event-free survival for ELF–MF exposure categories and by 0.1 μT increases. The HRs by 0.1 μT increases were 1.00 (CI, 0.93–1.07) for event-free survival analysis and 1.04 (CI…

Possible Editing of Alu Transcripts in Blood Cells of Sporadic Creutzfeldt–Jakob Disease (sCJD)

2011

Editing of RNA molecules gained major interest when coding mRNA was analyzed. A small, noncoding, Alu DNA element transcript that may act as regulatory RNA in cells was examined in this study. Alu DNA element transcription was determined in buffy coat from healthy humans and human sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (sCJD) cases. In addition, non-sCJD controls, mostly dementia cases and Alzheimer's disease (AD) cases, were included. The Alu cDNA sequences were aligned to genomic Alu DNA elements by database search. A comparison of best aligned Alu DNA sequences with our RNA/cDNA clones revealed editing by deamination by ADAR (adenosine deaminase acting on RNA) and APOBEC (apolipoprotein B ed…
