The accuracy of sentinel lymph-node biopsy in breast cancer after previous excisional biopsy

2013

Portal vein thrombosis and Budd-Chiari syndrome as onset of polycythemia vera

2013

Budd-Chiari syndrome may be defined as a heterogeneous group of vascular disorders characterized by obstruction of hepatic venous return to the level of hepatic venules, supra-hepatic veins, inferior vena cava or right atrium. The main cause of this syndrome is represented by myeloproliferative diseases and, in particular, by polycythemia vera. The latter may cause multiple splanchnic thrombosis, including portal vein thrombosis, particularly important for its clinical outcomes (ascites, collateral vessels genesis, etc.). We report 2 cases of a Budd-Chiari syndrome induced by polycythemia vera characterized by an abnormal clinical onset, both as regards subjects’ age (29 and 39 years old, r…

Multiple in vitro and in vivo regulatory effects of budesonide in CD4+ T lymphocyte subpopulations of allergic asthmatics.

2012

Abstract BACKGROUND: Increased activation and increased survival of T lymphocytes characterise bronchial asthma. OBJECTIVES: In this study the effect of budesonide on T cell survival, on inducible co-stimulator T cells (ICOS), on Foxp3 and on IL-10 molecules in T lymphocyte sub-populations was assessed. METHODS: Cell survival (by annexin V binding) and ICOS in total lymphocytes, in CD4+/CD25+ and in CD4+/CD25- and Foxp3 and IL-10 in CD4+/CD25+ and in CD4+/CD25-cells was evaluated, by cytofluorimetric analysis, in mild intermittent asthmatics (n = 19) and in controls (n = 15). Allergen induced T lymphocyte proliferation and the in vivo effects of budesonide in mild persistent asthmatics (n =…

Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplantation in Mantle Cell Lymphoma; Insights into Its Potential Role in the Era of New Immunotherapeutic and Targeted Thera…

2022

Simple Summary We present the long-term results of patients receiving allogeneic stem cell transplantation (allo-SCT) for relapsed/refractory mantle cell lymphoma (R/R MCL) in the last 25 years in Spain. We conclude that allo-SCT may be a curative option in R/R MCL with a low cumulative incidence (CI) of relapse, although non-relapse mortality (NRM) is still high, which is mainly secondary to acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD). Results are better for fit patients, using HLA-identical (related or unrelated) or haploidentical related donors and without previous ASCT. However, the arrival of new highly effective and low toxic immunotherapeutic or targeted therapies inevitably will relegat…

Plasma membrane and lysosomal localization of CB1 cannabinoid receptor are dependent on lipid rafts and regulated by anandamide in human breast cance…

2005

AbstractIn this report we show, by confocal analysis of indirect immunofluorescence, that the type-1 cannabinoid receptor (CB1R), which belongs to the family of G-protein-coupled receptors, is expressed on the plasma membrane in human breast cancer MDA-MB-231 cells. However, a substantial proportion of the receptor is present in lysosomes. We found that CB1R is associated with cholesterol- and sphyngolipid-enriched membrane domains (rafts). Cholesterol depletion by methyl-β-cyclodextrin (MCD) treatment strongly reduces the flotation of the protein on the raft-fractions (DRM) of sucrose density gradients suggesting that CB1 raft-association is cholesterol dependent. Interestingly binding of …

The Cytokine GM-CSF Drives the Inflammatory Signature of CCR2+ Monocytes and Licenses Autoimmunity.

2015

Granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) has emerged as a crucial cytokine produced by auto-reactive T helper (Th) cells that initiate tissue inflammation. Multiple cell types can sense GM-CSF, but the identity of the pathogenic GM-CSF-responsive cells is unclear. By using conditional gene targeting, we systematically deleted the GM-CSF receptor (Csf2rb) in specific subpopulations throughout the myeloid lineages. Experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) progressed normally when either classical dendritic cells (cDCs) or neutrophils lacked GM-CSF responsiveness. The development of tissue-invading monocyte-derived dendritic cells (moDCs) was also unperturbed upon Csf2r…

Abstract 3289: Microenvironment modulation and enhancement of cytotoxic therapy by the heparanase inhibitor Roneparstat against human B-non Hodgkin l…

2016

Abstract Background: The standard chemotherapy treatment for Non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) consists in the combination of cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine and prednisone (CHOP). Because of the relevant treatment-related toxicity and the minor therapeutic effectiveness of CHOP therapy variants, the development of novel therapeutic approaches represents an urgent clinical need. Despite treatment with the anti-CD20 monoclonal antibody Rituximab and CHOP has led to favourable results for CD20+ lymphoma, many patients experienced drug resistance. Based on studies indicating that the malignant behaviour of tumors depends on the interactions between tumor and its microenvironment, we tested…

Linfomatosis intravascular de presentación pulmonar

2001

Synchronous metastatic cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma and chronic lymphocytic leukaemia/small lymphocytic lymphoma in a cervical lymph node: case …

2015

The synchronous occurrence of two different neoplasias is an uncommon event, which may arise between tumors originating in the same organ or in cancer-to-cancer metastasis. We report a rare case of chronic lymphocytic leukaemia / small lymphocytic lymphoma associated with a cutaneous metastatic squamous cell carcinoma in a cervical lymph node. In the affected lymph node, it was observed an effacement of the normal architecture by neoplastic lymphocytes and it was noted the presence of neoplastic invasive epithelial islands. Immunohistochemical analysis demonstrated that lymphocytic proliferation was positive for CD20, CD5, CD23 and Kappa, and negative for CD3, CD10, Cyclin D1 and Lambda. Th…
