Rate of false-negative findings in sentinel lymph node biopsy in patients with head and neck malignant melanoma.
2017
e17566 Background: Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy (SLNB) is the standard procedure for malignant melanoma with a thicknes above 1mm. However, the benefits of this procedure have recently been questioned because of a high number of false negative findings. The aim of our study was to investigate the number of early recurrence in patients with negative SLNB. Methods: All patients with malignant melanoma of the head and neck region who underwent SLNB between 2010 and 2016 in our department were included and data reviewed retrospectively. Recurrence in the same cervical lymph node region of the previously extirpated sentinel lymph node (SLN) within one year was defined as primary false-negative. R…
Sentinel lymph node biopsy in T1/T2 squamous cell carcinomas of the tongue: A prospective study
2014
Commonly used staging procedures often cannot predict the absence of cervical metastases (CM) in squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs) of the oral cavity. Due to the high incidence of occult CM in numerous N0 cases in the clinic, an elective neck dissection (ND) is performed. The sentinel lymph node biopsy (SNB) is a common concept in the modern surgical therapy of malignancies. The present study evaluates the applicability of this concept for T1/T2-SCC of the tongue. In a prospective clinical study, 10 consecutive patients with T1/T2-SCC of the tongue and cN0 necks, were enrolled. Following sentinel lymph node (SLN) scintigraphy, all patients underwent SNB with a γ-probe and a subsequent ND. SNB…
Risk factors for recurrence after robot-assisted radical hysterectomy for early-stage cervical cancer: a multicenter retrospective study
2020
This retrospective analysis aimed to assess the risk factors for recurrence in patients diagnosed with early-stage cervical cancer (&le
Two new natural begomovirus recombinants associated with the tomato yellow leaf curl disease co-exist with parental viruses in tomato epidemics in It…
2009
Two tomato geminivirus species co-exist in protected crops in Sicily, Tomato yellow leaf curl Sardinia virus (TYLCSV, found in 1989) and Tomato yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV, found in 2002), and mixed infections have been detected. In a field survey conducted in 2004, the viral intergenic region (IR) was amplified from infected plants, and molecules apparently hybrid between the two species were found, but only in plants where one or both parental species were also present. Two of these hybrids, named 2/2 and 2/5, were isolated and infectious clones were obtained. They were both readily whitefly-transmitted to tomato plants; clone 2/5 produced symptoms typical of TYLCSV and TYLCV, while clo…
Identification of non-canonical NLRP3 functions in Th17 cells - Therapeutic interest to promote antitumor immune response
2021
Since decades, cancers have become a major public health issue, occupying the first premature mortality cause in France. One of the hallmarks of cancer cells is their ability to escape the immune system surveillance, notably through setting up an immunosuppressive environment within the tumor. The NLRP3 protein is largely studied in the inflammasome context, which is assembled in order to promote inflammation through IL-1β secretion. However, this protein also functions as a transcription factor in CD4+ T cells. Indeed, in Th2 cells, NLRP3 cooperate together with IRF4, to form a complex that is able to activate the transcription of Il4, Il5 and Il13, which are necessary for the function of …
Effects of Foliar Application of Gibberellic Acid on the Salt Tolerance of Tomato and Sweet Pepper Transplants
2020
Seed germination and early seedling growth are the plant growth stages most sensitive to salt stress. Thus, the availability of poor-quality brackish water can be a big limiting factor for the nursery vegetable industry. The exogenous supplementation of gibberellic acid (GA3) may promote growth and vigor and counterbalance salt stress in mature plants. This study aimed to test exogenous supplementation through foliar spray of 10&minus
Clinical Practice Guideline on Melanoma From the Spanish Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (AEDV)
2020
Clinico-Immunological Status and Neurocognitive Function of Perinatally Acquired HIV-Positive Children on cART: A Cross-Sectional Correlational Study…
2020
Despite the undisputed benefits of combination antiretroviral therapy (cART), perinatally acquired human immunodeficiency virus (PHIV) children on treatment often present with a spectrum of neurological deficits known as HIV-associated neurocognitive impairment. Even higher CD4 cell count does not seem to prevent the development of neurocognitive impairment in children with PHIV. While CD4 cell count has shown to have the greatest prognostic value, its association with neurocognitive abilities remains to be clarified. This study aimed at determining the correlation between plasma CD4+ lymphocyte and neurocognitive function in children with PHIV on cART. In total, 152 purposively recruited h…
Allogeneic effector/memory Th-1 cells impair FoxP3+ regulatory T lymphocytes and synergize with chaperone-rich cell lysate vaccine to treat leukemia
2011
AbstractTherapeutic strategies combining the induction of effective antitumor immunity with the inhibition of the mechanisms of tumor-induced immunosuppression represent a key objective in cancer immunotherapy. Herein we demonstrate that effector/memory CD4+ T helper-1 (Th-1) lymphocytes, in addition to polarizing type-1 antitumor immune responses, impair tumor-induced CD4+CD25+FoxP3+ regulatory T lymphocyte (Treg) immunosuppressive function in vitro and in vivo. Th-1 cells also inhibit the generation of FoxP3+ Tregs from naive CD4+CD25−FoxP3− T cells by an interferon-γ–dependent mechanism. In addition, in an aggressive mouse leukemia model (12B1), Th-1 lymphocytes act synergistically with …
Hospital and outpatient models for Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation: A systematic review of comparative studies for health outcomes, experienc…
2021
The number of Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantations has risen in the past 20 years. The practice of outpatient Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation programs is increasing in an attempt to improve the quality of patient care and reduce the demand for hospital admission. A systematic review of 29 comparative studies between in-hospital and outpatient treatment of Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation, with no restriction by outpatient regime was conducted. This study aims to analyse the current evidence on the effects of the outpatient model on patient-centred outcomes, comparing both in-hospital and outpatient models for autologous and allogeneic HSCT using the Triple Aim framework: …
