Lineārās programmēšanas uzdevums kā nodarbību saraksta izveides modelis
2018
Inflammation status of healthy young men : initial and specific responses to resistance training
2018
Our primary aim was to study the effects of a 4-week preparatory resistance-training (RT) period followed by 12 weeks of 2 specific RT protocols (either hypertrophic-strength (HS) or strength-hypertrophy-power training) on inflammation markers and the possible relationship of the changes in abdominal fat and lean mass to the changes in inflammation status. A total of 82 healthy men were included in the study. Maximal concentric leg press strength (1-repetition maximum), total body lean mass, total body and abdominal fat mass, circulating high-sensitivity C-reactive protein, interleukin-6, interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1ra), monocyte chemoattractant protein 1 (MCP-1), and selected ad…
Tavallisen ihmisen uskottavuus mainoksen suosittelijana ja uskottavuuden vaikutus asenteeseen mainosta ja brandia kohtaan
2012
Tutkimuksen tavoitteena oli tutkia tavallisten ihmisten käyttöä mainoksen suosittelijoina, tavallisen ihmisen uskottavuutta suosittelijana ja uskottavuuden vaikutusta asenteeseen mainosta ja brandia kohtaan. Aikaisempaa tutkimusta aiheesta löytyi melko vähän, joten teoriapohjana käytettiin source credibility –teoriaa, jota on käytetty julkisuuden henkilöitä mainosten suosittelijoina tutkittaessa.
Predicting human performance in interactive tasks by using dynamic models
2017
The selection of an appropriate sequence of activities is an essential task to keep student motivation and foster engagement. Usually, decisions in this respect are made by taking into account the difficulty of the activities, in relation to the student's level of competence. In this paper, we present a dynamic model that aims to predict the average performance of a group of students at solving a given series of maths problems. The system takes into account both student- and task-related features. This model was built and validated by using the data gathered in an experimental session that involved 64 participants solving a sequence of 26 arithmetic problems. The data collected from the fir…
Gui-driven intelligent tutoring system with affective support to help learning the algebraic method
2017
Despite many research efforts focused on the development of algebraic reasoning and the resolution of story problems, several investigations have reported that relatively advanced students experience serious difficulties in symbolizing certain meaningful relations by using algebraic equations. In this paper, we describe and justify the Graphical User Interface of an Intelligent Tutoring System that allows learning and practising the procedural aspects involved in translating the information contained in a story problem into a symbolic representation. The application design has been driven by cognitive findings from several previous investigations. First, the process of translating a word pr…
The Influence of Requirements in Software Model Development in an Industrial Environment
2017
Textual description of requirements is a specification technique that is widely used in industry, where time is key for success. How requirements are specified textually greatly depends on human factors. In order to study how requirements processing is affected by the level of detail in textual descriptions, this paper compares enriched textual requirements specifications with non-enriched ones. To do this, we have conducted an experiment in industry with 19 engineers of CAF (Construcciones y Auxiliares de Ferrocarril), which is a supplier of railway solutions. The experiment is a crossover design that analyzes efficiency, effectiveness, and perceived difficulty starting from a written spec…
Smart Technologies for Improved Software Maintenance
2015
Steadily increasing complexity of software systems makes them difficult to configure and use without special IT knowledge. One of the solutions is to improve software systems making them “smarter”, i.e. to supplement software systems with features of self-management, at least partially. This paper describes several software components known as smart technologies, which facilitate software use and maintenance. As to date smart technologies incorporate version updating, execution environment testing, self-testing, runtime verification and business process execution. The proposed approach has been successfully applied in several software projects.
The United Nations and the European Union
2019
The European Union (EU) and the United Nations (UN) are expressions of a rules-based global order. The EU has enshrined support to the UN in its security strategies, and its priorities indicate an engagement in a wide range of UN programs and activities to maintain the rules-based order and adapt it to face internal and external challenges. The EU and its member states are the largest contributors to the UN budget. Following the adoption of the Lisbon treaty, the EU has increased its representation at the UN, gaining enhanced observer status in the General Assembly. However, because of the intergovernmental nature of the forum, only its member states have the right to vote. This has led sch…
Non-negative matrix factorization Vs. FastICA on mismatch negativity of children
2009
In this presentation two event-related potentials, mismatch negativity (MMN) and P3a, are extracted from EEG by non-negative matrix factorization (NMF) simultaneously. Typically MMN recordings show a mixture of MMN, P3a, and responses to repeated standard stimuli. NMF may release the source independence assumption and data length limitations required by Fast independent component analysis (FastICA). Thus, in theory NMF could reach better separation of the responses. In the current experiment MMN was elicited by auditory duration deviations in 102 children. NMF was performed on the time-frequency representation of the raw data to estimate sources. Support to Absence Ratio (SAR) of the MMN co…
IS evolution benefit assessment: Challenges with economic investment criteria
2007
Maintenance and system evolution activities have a significant role in the information system (IS) life cycle. It has been estimated that approximately 80% of the total IT expenses are allocated for maintenance activities [20]. According to Lehman’s first law, maintenance is necessary, because software needs to be continuously improved or it will get out of date and cannot respond to the requirements of its environment [19]. Despite the importance of IS evolution investments, there is a gap between the IT related costs and company profitability [27]. Brynjolfssen [10] described this as a productivity paradox: information technology utilization has increased since the 70’s but simultaneously…
