A debated question in the literature is the degree of anatomical and functional lateralization of the executive control processes subserved by the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) during recognition memory retrieval. Maxillary bone lesions in McCune-Albright syndrome:a case report

Abstract Objectives In this study, we report on the clinical maxillary manifestations of a patient affected by McCune-Albright syndrome and the implications for orthodontic therapy. Materials and methods A male, 8-year-old patient was examined at the Department of Orthodontics of the University of L’Aquila for a problem of anterior open-bite. In the clinical examination, a small swelling of the left hemi-maxilla was seen in the area corresponding to the root apex of 16 and under the tooth buds of 14 and 15. Adaptive smoothing spline using non-convex penalties

We propose a new adaptive penalty for smoothing via penalized splines. The new form of adaptive penalization is based on penalizing the differences of the coefficients of adjacent bases, using non-convex penalties. This makes possible to estimate curves with varying amounts of smoothness. Comparisons with respect to some competitors are presented.

Lasten akuutin lymfoblastileukemian ylläpitovaiheen hoidossa tehtävät lääkeannostuspäätökset pohjataan nykyisin potilaan veren valkosolupitoisuuteen, joka on hoidon tehokkuudesta kertova tekijä. Potilaalle sopiva lääkeannostus on hoidon onnistumisen ja turvallisuuden kannalta tärkeä, mutta sen löytäminen on vaikeaa, sillä annettu lääkitys näkyy valkosolupitoisuudessa viiveellä, ja potilaiden elimistön reagointi lääkitykseen on yksilöllistä. Sopivan lääkeannostuksen löytämistä hankaloittavat myös hoidonaikaiset tulehdukset, jotka voivat muuttaa valkosolupitoisuutta hetkellisesti.
