Carbapenem-Susceptible OXA-23-Producing Proteus mirabilis in the French Community

International audience; Nineteen Proteus mirabilis isolates producing the carbapenemase OXA-23 were recovered over a 2-year period in 19 French hospitalized patients, of whom 12 had community onset infections. The isolates exhibited a slightly reduced susceptibility to carbapenems. Whole-genome analysis revealed that all 19 isolates formed a cluster compared to 149 other P. mirabilis isolates. Because of its susceptibility to carbapenems, this clone may be misidentified as a penicillinase producer while it constitutes a reservoir of the OXA-23-encoding gene in the community.

Data on the prevalence of antibiotic resistance in Enterobacteriaceae in African wildlife are still relatively limited. The aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence of phenotypic intrinsic and acquired antimicrobial resistance of enterobacteria from several species of terrestrial wild mammals in national parks of Gabon. Colony culture and isolation were done using MacConkey agar. Isolates were identified using the VITEK 2 and MALDI-TOF methods. The Flying Geese Theory (gankoo keitai hattenron 雁行形態発展論), dating from 1932, is one of the rare cases of a scientific theory that was used as a part of Japanese wartime propaganda, and which also survived and succeeded in the postwar era. It was used to legitimize the 'New Order in East Asia (TōA shinchitsujo 東亜新秩序) in 1938, and the new formulation of the 'Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere‘ (Dai TōA kyōeiken大東亜共栄圏) in 1940. Later in the 1980s the Flying Geese Theory/Pattern became the most successful candidate for explaining the expansion of ‗Asian economical miracles‘ in the postwar era. Antiquity is part of the identity of the Eternal City; the reuse or reframing of aspects of antiquity inevitably transformed the image of Rome. Public spaces, architecture and objects were given new Christian readings. Inscriptions, present both in sacred and secular settings, played an important role.
