Photovoltaic facade: Comparison of actual technologies

2017

This article aims to establish the economic contribution of a photovoltaic system placed on a façade of a building, replacing traditional elements such as windows and glass-cement walls with active elements. The aim is to compare the behavior of next-generation systems, which favor architectonical integration, with traditional ones. Two novel systems have been taken into account: a dye sensitized solar cell (DSSC) and blue and grey thin film silicon panels. Different generation systems have been tested and compared in terms of efficiency and fill factor.

Microwave phase shifter based on fibre Bragg grating

1998

A variable delay line is presented for phased array antennas based on a fibre Bragg grating which has a uniform period and operates at constant optical wavelength. The Bragg wavelength of a localised part of the fibre grating is modified by straining the fibre, the optical carrier is reflected by the strained part of the grating and the time delay of the microwave modulating signal is determined by the position where the strain has been applied. In this initial experiment time delay variations up to 330 ps in the frequency range 1 – 14 GHz have been achieved.

Dynamic programming and Munkres algorithm for optimal photovoltaic arrays reconfiguration

2015

Abstract In this paper, an original formulation of the control problem for optimal PV array reconfiguration, following a Total Cross Tied layout, is proposed. The formulation follows the well-known subset sum problem, which is a special case of the knapsack problem. The reconfiguration is a measure devoted to mitigate the mismatch effect and maximize the output power of small photovoltaic plants under non-homogeneous working conditions. Therefore, reconfiguration means changing the connections of the solar panels adaptively by a dynamic switching matrix. The control system implements an easy dynamic programming algorithm to change the switches layout. The use of the Munkres assignment metho…

Partial characters with respect to a normal subgroup

1999

AbstractSuppose that G is a π-separable group. Let N be a normal π1-subgroup of G and let H be a Hall π-subgroup of G. In this paper, we prove that there is a canonical basis of the complex space of the class functions of G which vanish of G-conjugates ofHN. When N = 1 and π is the complement of a prime p, these bases are the projective indecomposable characters and set of irreduciblt Brauer charcters of G.

The ANTARES optical module

2001

The ANTARES collaboration is building a deep sea neutrino telescope in the Mediterranean Sea. This detector will cover a sensitive area of typically 0.1 km-squared and will be equipped with about 1000 optical modules. Each of these optical modules consists of a large area photomultiplier and its associated electronics housed in a pressure resistant glass sphere. The design of the ANTARES optical module, which is a key element of the detector, has been finalized following extensive R & D studies and is reviewed here in detail.

On the effects of the supporting frame on the radiation-induced damage of HCLL-TBM structural material

2007

Within the European Fusion Technology Programme, research activities have been conducted on the Helium-Cooled Lithium Lead (HCLL) breeding blanket concept with the aim of manufacturing a Test Blanket Module (TBM) to be irradiated in ITER. HCLL-TBM is planned to be located in an ITER equatorial port, housed inside an AISI 316 stainless steel-supporting frame. Since that frame has been designed to provide two positions separated by a dividing plate and the HCLL-TBM is expected to fill one of them, its nuclear response could vary depending on the filling status of the other position and on the plate thickness. A parametric study has been carried out to investigate the potential effects on the …

Experimental Assessment of a Flat Sandwich-Like Self-Powered Detector for Nuclear Measurements in ITER Test Blanket Modules

2018

Neutron and gamma flux measurements in designated positions in the test blanket modules (TBMs) of ITER will be important tasks during its campaigns. Investigations on self-powered detectors (SPDs), a class of reactor flux monitors are undertaken in the framework of an ongoing project on development of nuclear instrumentation for European ITER TBMs. This paper reports the findings of experiments performed with an SPD in flat sandwich-like geometry. A detector with vanadium emitter is chosen for preliminary studies. Its irradiation in a thermal neutron field gives a proof of the principle of flat SPDs. It is further irradiated in the mixed neutron-gamma field of a 14-MeV neutron generator and…
