Previous research experiences have shown that climate variability can play a relevant role in forest planning and management within a climate change scenario. This study proposes both to make a contribution to the current cognitive framework of the Nebrodi chestnut groves, and to draw up a management plan that is still lacking in order to identify forestry addresses and sustainable management necessary to maintain and defend these forest formations.

In recent decades, Mediterranean landscapes have been affected by human-induced drivers, such as land use and climate change. Forest ecosystems and landscapes have been particularly affected in mountainous regions due to limited management and stewardship, especially in remote areas.
