Comparative tests on different multi-electrode arrays using models in near-surface geophysics

2008

In this paper, the response of different synthetic models to geoelectrical multi-electrode surveys is studied. The models considered are related to two main problems, which are very common in geophysical research regarding hydrogeology and engineering. The first class of models represents buried walls, similar archaeological remains or remains of buried foundations; the other class corresponds to a sea-water intrusion of a fresh water aquifer, which is generally studied in hydrogeophysics. A set of 2D simulations, starting from the synthetic models, was carried out to compare the behaviour of the different arrays when acquiring measurements of electrical resistivity tomography. For each mod…

Polyamino Acid Carriers In Drug Delivery And Their Production Under Good Manufacturing Practice Compliance

2021

Poly(Amino Acids) (PAA)s are biocompatible, biodegradable and multifunctional polymers, which have been effectively used as building blocks in polymer-based delivery carriers for various medical applications. In addition, PAAs are envisaged to achieve a major impact on biomedical areas due to their structural versatility, biocompatibility, water-solubility and the important advances made on the synthetic strategies. Control on polymer chain length and stereochemistry have been one of the major challenges in PAA synthesis over the past years. Their physico-chemical properties can be modulated in terms of the manufacturing process, size, electrostatic charge, conformation, geometry, topology,…

Precipitation of potassium as hazenite from washing water of spent alkaline batteries

2022

Hazenite (KNaMg2(PO4)2 × 14 H2O), a new type of struvite mineral, was precipitated from the potassium-rich washing water of spent alkaline battery black mass. Hazenite can be used as a fertilizer, which would be an additional benefit derived from the sustainable recovery of battery materials. Precipitation experiments were performed using different pH values (9.5–12), Mg:K:PO4 ratios ((1.0–1.5):1:(1.0–1.5)) and temperatures (10–40 °C). Based on the results, hazenite precipitated in a wide pH range under alkaline conditions. The precipitation kinetics were fast, and the purity of the hazenite was high. Overall, hazenite can be precipitated at room temperature without the addition of excess c…

HPLC Determination of Polyphenols from Calendula officinalis L. Flowers

2017

Abstract Romanian spontaneous flora provides a lot of resources for the determination of different chemical compounds. This study uses flower samples from Calendula officinalis L. extracted through maceration. The chemical compounds determined were: (+)-catechin, caffeic acid, chlorogenic acid, cinnamic acid, ferulic acid, gallic acid, rutin, resveratrol and quercetin. They were analyzed by using an optimized HPLC method. (+)-Catechin, caffeic acid, chlorogenic acid and quercetin could not be identified in the analyzed samples. The greatest amount of phenolic compound found was rutin and the smallest quantity was determined for ferulic acid. The quantified compounds have proven to have bene…

Multi-objective human resources allocation in R&D projects planning

2009

In a R&D department, several projects may have to be implemented simultaneously within a certain period of time by a limited number of human resources with diverse skills. This paper proposes an optimisation model for the allocation of multi-skilled human resources to R&D projects, considering individual workers as entities having different knowledge, experience and ability. The model focuses on three fundamental aspects of human resources: the different skill levels, the learning process and the social relationships existing in working teams. The resolution approach for the multi-objective problem consists of two steps: firstly, a set of non-dominated solutions is obtained by exploring the…

The technological evolution of the Castellón ceramic tile district: the contribution of the frit, glaze and colour industry

2008

[EN]: The industrial district of Castellón is characterized by a great dynamism based on technological innovation, both product and process, the origins of which are to be found on its providers, the machinery industry and the frit, glaze and colours industry. In this paper the current situation of the frit, glaze and colour industry is analyzed, accounting also for the situation of its main European competitor in Italy. The formation and development of the industry is also described in relation to the industrial district and the innovation system where it belongs, together with the R&D activity, the innovation activity, and the main technological milestones that have made it become the wor…

The different catalytic behaviour in the propane total oxidation of cobalt and manganese oxides prepared by a wet combustion procedure

2013

Abstract Cobalt oxide and manganese oxide catalysts have been prepared through aqueous synthesis using a wet combustion procedure. These materials have been tested as catalysts for the total oxidation of propane. It has been observed a different catalytic behaviour between cobalt and manganese oxides although for both oxides a very high catalytic activity has been obtained. Cobalt oxides prepared by the wet combustion procedure are less reactive than a simple cobalt oxide prepared without the addition of organic acids. However, in the case of manganese oxide the use of organic acids highly increases the catalytic activity. The different catalytic behaviour has been related to the variation …

AlTf-UVM-7—Highly active catalysts for the synthesis of long chain symmetrical ethers and non-ionic surfactant structures

2010

New Lewis acid AlTf-UVM-7 catalysts with bimodal pore system and different Si to Al ratios were prepared in a two-step synthesis in which triflic acid (Tf) was incorporated into previously synthesized mesoporous aluminum-containing silica. The Al incorporation inside the pore walls was carried out through the Atrane method. The characterization of the resulted catalysts showed that the triflic acid treatment step did not damage the texture or the structure of the catalysts. These materials were used as green catalysts for the etherification of fatty alcohols and the conversion of ethylene glycol (EG) with n-octanol resulting in mixtures of short ethoxylated structures with a large distribut…
