Location Based Information Storage and Dissemination in Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks
2010
Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs) is an emerging type of information networks in urban areas. A lot of research has been done in the area of increasing the vehicle awareness by disseminating collision and congestion warnings, and parking place availability information. In this paper we propose a novel idea and framework for dissemination of location based information, called digital maps, which are useful not only directly for the drivers and vehicle onboard navigation systems, but also external entities, such as tourists, environmental scientists, emergency services, advertisement companies. Centralized authority defines cooperative knowledge collection tasks and disseminates orders in th…
QSPR with descriptors based on averages of vertex invariants. An artificial neural network study
2014
New type of indices, the mean molecular connectivity indices (MMCI), based on nine different concepts of mean are proposed to model, together with molecular connectivity indices (MCI), experimental parameters and random variables, eleven properties of organic solvents. Two model methodologies are used to test the different descriptors: the multilinear least-squares (MLS) methodology and the Artificial Neural Network (ANN) methodology. The top three quantitative structure–property relationships (QSPR) for each property are chosen with the MLS method. The indices of these three QSPRs were used to train the ANNs that selected the best training sets of indices to estimate the evaluation sets of…
Meta-analytical definition and functional connectivity of the human vestibular cortex.
2012
Contrary to most other sensory systems, no consensus has been reached within the scientific community about the exact locations and functions of human cortical areas processing vestibular information. Metaanalytical modelling using activation likelihood estimation (ALE) for the integration of neuroimaging results has already been successfully applied to several distinct tasks, thereby revealing the cortical localization of cognitive functions. We used the same algorithm and technique with all available and suitable PET and fMRI studies employing a vestibular stimulus. Most consistently across 28 experiments vestibular stimuli evoked activity in the right hemispheric parietal opercular area …

Probing protein interactions in the membrane-containing virus PRD1.
2015
PRD1 is a Gram-negative bacteria infecting complex tailless icosahedral virus with an inner membrane. This type virus of the family Tectiviridae contains at least 18 structural protein species, of which several are membrane associated. Vertices of the PRD1 virion consist of complexes recognizing the host cell, except for one special vertex through which the genome is packaged. Despite extensive knowledge of the overall structure of the PRD1 virion and several individual proteins at the atomic level, the locations and interactions of various integral membrane proteins and membrane-associated proteins still remain a mystery. Here, we demonstrated that blue native PAGE can be used to probe pro…
Image Content Enhancement Through Salient Regions Segmentation for People With Color Vision Deficiencies
2019
Color vision deficiencies affect visual perception of colors and, more generally, color images. Several sciences such as genetics, biology, medicine, and computer vision are involved in studying and analyzing vision deficiencies. As we know from visual saliency findings, human visual system tends to fix some specific points and regions of the image in the first seconds of observation summing up the most important and meaningful parts of the scene. In this article, we provide some studies about human visual system behavior differences between normal and color vision-deficient visual systems. We eye-tracked the human fixations in first 3 seconds of observation of color images to build real f…
Saliency Map for Visual Perception
2015
Human and other primates move their eyes to select visual information from the scene, psycho-visual experiments (Constantinidis, 2005) suggest that attention is directed to visually salient locations in the image. This allows human beings to bring the fovea onto the relevant parts of the image, to interpret complex scenes in real time. In visual perception, an important result was the discovery of a limited set of visual properties (called pre attentive), detected in the first 200-300 milliseconds of observation of a scene, by the low-level visual system. In last decades many progresses have been made into research of visual perception by analyzing both bottom up (stimulus driven) and top d…
Two interconnected functional systems in the amygdala of amniote vertebrates.
2008
The amygdala shows ventropallial and lateropallial derivatives that can be compared among vertebrates according to their topological position, either superficial (cortical amygdala) or deep (basolateral amygdala and amygdalo-hippocampal area), connections and histochemical features. On the other hand, the subpallial amygdala, also called extended amygdala, is composed of medial and central divisions. In mammals, both divisions consist of an intra-amygdaloid portion and a part of the bed nucleus of the stria terminalis. In non-mammals, the intratelencephalic trajectory of the stria terminalis is short and both poles of the extended amygdala are close together. Like its mammalian counterpart,…
Assessment and mapping the sensitive areas to desertification in an insular Sahelian mountain region Case study of the Ribeira Seca Watershed, Santia…
2015
10 pages; International audience; This paper presents the assessment and mapping of the Ribeira Seca catchment, an insular Sahelian mountain region sensitive to desertification, located on the island of Santiago, Cabo Verde. Desertification is a threat to the global environment, representing a serious ecological problem in Cabo Verde. To successfully combat desertification, an evaluation of desertification consequences is required and the building of cartography of the sensitivity for arid and semi-arid ecosystems is required as a first step. The MEDALUS model was the basis for this study in which six quality indicators were used: climate, soil, vegetation, land management, erosion and soci…
Analysis of Aggregated Bot and Human Traffic on E-Commerce Site
2014
A significant volume of Web traffic nowadays can be attributed to robots. Although some of them, e.g., search-engine crawlers, perform useful tasks on a website, others may be malicious and should be banned. Consequently, there is a growing need to identify bots and to characterize their behavior. This paper investigates the share of bot-generated traffic on an e-commerce site and studies differences in bots' and humans' session-based traffic by analyzing data recorded in Web server log files. Results show that both kinds of sessions reveal different characteristics, including the session duration, the number of pages visited in session, the number of requests, the volume of data transferre…
