Sequence of the new Drosophila melanogaster small heat-shock-related gene, lethal(2) essential for life [l(2)efl], at locus 59F4,5.
1995
Abstract In this study, we report the molecular cloning of a novel Drosophila melanogaster small heat-shock (HS)-homologous gene, l(2)efl, identified on the right arm of the second chromosome at locus 59F4,5. We describe the temporal expression of l(2)efl in the wild-type and present its structure. The deduced amino-acid sequence of the Efl protein shows significant homology to all known small HS proteins identified in Drosophila and vertebrates, and to mammalian α-crystallin.
Quantification of synchronization during atrial fibrillation by Shannon entropy: Validation in patients and computer model of atrial arrhythmias
2005
Atrial fibrillation (AF), a cardiac arrhythmia classically described as completely desynchronized, is now known to show a certain amount of synchronized electrical activity. In the present work a new method for quantifying the level of synchronization of the electrical activity recorded in pairs of atrial sites during atrial fibrillation is presented. A synchronization index (Sy) was defined by quantifying the degree of complexity of the distribution of the time delays between sites by Shannon entropy estimation. The capability of Sy to discriminate different AF types in patients was assessed on a database of 60 pairs of endocardial recordings from a multipolar basket catheter. The analysis…
Systematic screening for mutations in the human serotonin-2A (5-HT2A) receptor gene: Identification of two naturally occurring receptor variants and …
1996
A statistically significant association between a silent mutation (102T/C) in the serotonin-2A (5-HT2A) receptor gene and schizophrenia has recently been reported in a sample of Japanese patients and healthy controls. This finding suggests that genetic predisposition to schizophrenia may be affected by a functional 5-HT2A receptor variant that is in linkage disequilibrium with 102T/C. In the present study, we have sought to identify genetic variation in the 5-HT2A receptor gene by screening genomic DNA samples from 91 unrelated subjects comprising 45 patients with schizophrenia and 46 healthy controls by using single-strand conformation analysis. We have identified four nucleotide sequence …
Comparison of Intensity-based B-splines and Point-to-Pixel Tracking Techniques for Motion Reduction in Optical Mapping
2016
Suppression of motion artifacts (MA) in cardiac optical mapping usually requires uncoupling of cardiac contraction by restriction techniques, which are known to have important effects on cardiac physiology deteriorating the quality of acquisitions and their interpretation. In this study, we propose to assess the performance of two independent intensity-based post-processing strategies to minimize MAs during registration. A point-to-pixel block-matching classical similarity-based tracking with displacement interpolation is compared to a well-known non-rigid registration algorithm where the deformation field is obtained using cubic splines. Both strategies were tested on synthetic and real op…
Bi-Sobolev extensions
2022
We give a full characterization of circle homeomorphisms which admit a homeomorphic extension to the unit disk with finite bi-Sobolev norm. As a special case, a bi-conformal variant of the famous Beurling-Ahlfors extension theorem is obtained. Furthermore we show that the existing extension techniques such as applying either the harmonic or the Beurling-Ahlfors operator work poorly in the degenerated setting. This also gives an affirmative answer to a question of Karafyllia and Ntalampekos.
Analytic capacity and quasiconformal mappings with $W^{1,2}$ Beltrami coefficient
2008
We show that if $\phi$ is a quasiconformal mapping with compactly supported Beltrami coefficient in the Sobolev space $W^{1,2}$, then $\phi$ preserves sets with vanishing analytic capacity. It then follows that a compact set $E$ is removable for bounded analytic functions if and only if it is removable for bounded quasiregular mappings with compactly supported Beltrami coefficient in $W^{1,2}$.

SENTINEL-1 for wheat mapping and soil moisture retrieval
2015
The main objective of this study is to assess the use of Sentinel-1 (S-1) data for surface soil moisture (SSM) retrieval and wheat mapping (WM) at high spatial resolution (e.g. 100–500m), which constitute valuable information for improving crop yield forecast at large scale. A knowledge based classification method and a SSM retrieval algorithm, developed in view of the European Space Agency Sentinel-1 mission, have been applied to a time series of S-1A data collected from October 2014 to April 2015 over a well-documented agricultural site in southern Italy. In particular, observations of SSM content recorded by a network of ground stations deployed in an experimental farm have been used to …
Digital Soil Mapping in the Irish Soil Information System
2009
Harmonised soil data across Europe with a 1:250 000 geo-referenced soil database will allow for exchange of data across member states and the provide the information needed by the European Commission and European Environment Agency for reporting on issues relating to soil quality under a fu-ture Soil Framework Directive. Within this context, the Environmental Protection Agency of the Republic of Ireland commissioned a project run by Teagasc to produce a 1:250 000 soil map of the Republic of Ire-land. Delivery of this map and associated database is a collaborative effort between Teagasc, the National Soil Resources Institute at Cranfield in the UK and University College Dublin. Environmental…
