This article looks at the role of Hellenistic thought in the historical narratives of Martin Heidegger and Hannah Arendt. To a certain extent, both see—with G. W. F. Hegel, J. G. Droysen, and Eduard Zeller—Hellenistic and Roman philosophy as a “modernity in antiquity,” but with important differences. Heidegger is generally dismissive of Hellenistic thought and comes to see it as a decisive historical turning point at which a protomodern element of subjective willing and domination is injected into the classical heritage of Plato and Aristotle. Pro gradu- tutkielmani on filosofinen tutkimus tanssiteoksesta ja tanssiteoksen kohtaamisesta. Tutkielmani tarkoitus on tutkia tanssiteoksen tapahtumaluontoista olemusta, tanssiteoksessa tapahtuvaa tanssin liikkeen merkitysrakennetta sekä tanssiteoksen kohtaamisen problematiikka Martin Heideggerin (1889- 1976) filosofian ja taiteenontologian avaamassa ulottuvuudessa. Tutkielmassani pyrin luomaan tanssiteoksen kohtaamiselle tulkintahorisontin, jossa tanssiteos tulee kohdatuksi estetiikan traditioon pohjautuvasta taideteoksen käsittämisen ja kohtaamisen tavasta poikkeavalla tavalla. Tutkimukseni tehtävänä on selvittää, onko fenomenologian ja marxismin synteesi mahdollista. Käsittelen 1930-luvun taitteen Herbert Marcusen fenomenologista marxismia esimerkkinä synteesin mahdollisuudesta. Näiden perinteiden yhdistäminen vaatii kuitenkin ensin syventymistä Marcusen ajattelun pohjana toimiviin hegeliläisen ja weberiläisen marxismin perinteisiin sekä Martin Heideggerin muotoilemaan fenomenologiaan. Marxismissa on perinteisesti painottunut yhteiskunnallisten rakenteiden ja fenomenologiassa yksilöllisen elävän kokemuksen näkökulma. At the beginning of Being and Time, Heidegger rejects Husserl’s classical phenomenology on three grounds: he claims that Husserlian phenomenology is impaired by indeterminate concepts, by naïve personalism, and by obscurities in its account of individuation. The paper studies the validity of this early critique by explicating Husserl’s discourse on human persons as bodily-spiritual beings and by clarifying his account of the principles by which such beings can be individuated. The paper offers three types of considerations. Abstract We use the chemical and isotopic composition of volcanic gases and steam condensate, in situ measurements of plume composition and remote measurements of SO2 flux to constrain volatile sources and characterize subvolcanic conditions at three persistently degassing and seismically active volcanoes within the Katmai Volcanic Cluster (KVC), Alaska: Mount Martin, Mount Mageik and Trident. In situ plume measurements of gas composition were collected at all three volcanoes using MultiGAS instruments to calculate gas ratios (e.g. CO2/H2S, SO2/H2S and H2O/H2S), and remote measurements of SO2 column density were collected from Mount Martin and Mount Mageik by ultraviolet spectrometer system…
