Impact of video-assisted thoracic surgery approach on postoperative mortality after lobectomy in octogenarians.

2019

The number of octogenarians who present with localized lung cancer eligible for surgical resection is increasing. Video-assisted thoracic surgery lobectomy has been widely accepted, but the potential benefit in octogenarians is not well established, especially for postoperative mortality. This study aimed to assess the impact of a video-assisted thoracic surgery approach on postoperative mortality after lobectomy for lung cancer in octogenarians. From January 2005 to December 2016, all patients aged more than 80 years who received lobectomy treatment for lung cancer were retrieved from the French Administrative Database. The end point was 30-day postoperative death. A propensity score was ge…

Early outcomes of patients with Marfan syndrome and acute aortic type A dissection.

2021

Acute aortic Stanford type A dissection remains a frequent and life-limiting event for patients with Marfan syndrome. Outcome results in this high-risk group are limited. The German Registry for Acute Aortic Dissection Type A collected the data of 56 centers between July 2006 and June 2015. Of 3385 patients undergoing operations for acute aortic Stanford type A dissection, 117 (3.5%) were diagnosed with Marfan syndrome. We performed a propensity score match comparing patients with Marfan syndrome with patients without Marfan syndrome in a 1:2 fashion.Patients with Marfan syndrome were significantly younger (42.9 vs 62.2 years; P  .001), predominantly male (76.9% vs 62.9%; P = .002), and less…

Load match and grid interaction optimization of a net zero energy building through electricity storage: An Italian case-study

2016

The study aims at applying of Load Match and Grid Interaction indexes to a Net Zero Energy Building in order to optimize the performances of its energy systems. The case study is a modular prefabricated house that uses solar energy (photovoltaic) and natural gas (Fuel Cell) as energy sources and equipped with an Energy Management System addressing the optimal energy use.

Random quasi-phase matching in congruent lithium tantalate waveguides by proton exchange

2012

A report is presented on broadband second-harmonic generation in the range between 930 and 970 nm using random quasi-phase matching in a planar waveguide fabricated by soft proton exchange in congruent lithium tantalate. Bulk and waveguide measurements are compared, outlining the averaging role of guided-wave modes and their interactions with respect to spectral acceptance and near-field profile.

Enterprise Knowledge Modeling, UML vs Ontology: Formal Evaluation

2019

International audience; Everyday activities in enterprises rely heavily on the experts' know-how. Due to experts departure, the loss of expertise and knowledge is a reoccurring problem in these enterprises. Recently, in order to capture experts knowledge into intelligent systems, formal knowledge representation methods, such as ontologies, are being studied and have caught up with non-formal or semi-formal representation, such as UML. The similarities and differences between UML class diagram and computational ontology have for long raised questions about the possibility of synthesizing them in a common representation (usually an ontology). Indeed, the problem of migrating knowledge encoded…

Comparison of stereo vision techniques for cloud-top height retrieval

2007

This paper presents an ongoing study for the estimation of the cloud-top height by using only geometrical methods. In agreement with some recent studies showing that it is possible to achieve reliable height estimations not only with the classical methods based on radiative transfer, this article includes a comparison of performances of a selected set of vision algorithms devoted to extract dense disparity maps or motion fields from Infra Red stereo image pairs. This collection includes both area-based techniques and an optical flow-based method and the comparison is accomplished by using a set of cloudy scenes selected from the Along-Track Scanning Radiometer (ATSR2) database. The first gr…

Shape matching, shape retrieval

2016

This thesis concerns shape matching and shape retrieval. It describes four contributions to thisdomain. The first is an improvement of the k-means method, in order to find the best partition ofvoxels inside a given shape ; these best partitions permit to match shapes using an optimal matchingin a bipartite graph. The second contribution is the fusion of two descriptors, one local, the otherglobal, with the product rule. The third contribution considers the complete graph, the vertices ofwhich are the shapes in the database and the query. Edges are labelled with several distances, one per descriptor. Then the method computes, with linear programming, the convex combinationof distances which m…

3D shape recognition and matching for intelligent computer vision systems

2018

This thesis concerns recognition and matching of 3D shapes for intelligent computer vision systems. It describes two main contributions to this domain. The first contribution is an implementation of a new shape descriptor built on the basis of the spectral geometry of the Laplace-Beltrami operator; we propose an Advanced Global Point Signature (AGPS). This descriptor exploits the intrinsic structure of the object and organizes its information in an efficient way. In addition, AGPS is extremely compact since only a few eigenpairs were necessary to obtain an accurate shape description. The second contribution is an improvement of the wave kernel signature; we propose an optimized wave kernel …

Color memory in children

2008

The methods of simultaneous and memory color matching have been studied for a set of five Munsell color samples by 50 children, 25 boys and 25 girls (ranging in age from 9 to 11 years). By comparison between this group and one of 50 young adult observers, we can deduce the following: (a) In children, as in young adults, the mean CIELAB total color difference, ΔE*ab, in simultaneous color matching is lower than the ΔE*ab by memory color matching. (b) Children matched reference test worse than young adults for orange, bluish green (only boys and men) and yellow green (only girls and women). (c) While men remember, independently of age and delay time, violet reference test worse than women (P …
