A combined semantic-syntactic sentence analysis for students assessment

TutorJ is an Intelligent Tutoring System able to fulfill the requests of a student with a learning path inside didactical materials. To this aim, it must assess the level of training of the learner. In the first version of TutorJ this goal was reached through a conversational agent whose linguistic interaction enriched by a LSA-based text analysis. This approach suffers from the limitations of LSA as a bag-of- words approach. Next, morphosyntactic comparison of sentences' structures was implemented. In this paper we present a new version of the assessment procedure involving both semantic, and morphosyntactic analysis user's sentences.

Lo studio presenta i dati relativi alla validità di criterio dell’EMT (Izard et al., 2003), una misura della conoscenza delle emozioni in età prescolare. La validità di criterio è esaminata in relazione alla regolazione emotiva dei bambini, alla loro competenza sociale e alla manifestazione di problemi comportamentali di natura internalizzata ed esternalizzata. Aspirin and incident depressive symptoms: A longitudinal cohort study over 8 years

Objective: Aspirin exhibits anti-atherosclerotic and anti-inflammatory properties—two potential risk factors for depression. The relationship between aspirin use and depression, however, remains unclear. We investigated whether the aspirin use is associated with a decreased incidence of depressive symptoms in a large North American cohort. Methods: Data from the Osteoarthritis Initiative dataset, a multicenter, longitudinal study on community-dwelling adults was analyzed. Aspirin use was defined through self-report in the past 30 days and confirmed by a trained interviewer. High Wage Workers Match with High Wage Firms: Clear Evidence of the Effects of Limited Mobility Bias

Positive assortative matching implies that high productivity workers and firms match together. However, there is almost no evidence of a positive correlation between the worker and firm contributions in two-way fixed-effects wage equations. This could be the result of a bias caused by standard estimation error. Using German social security records we show that the effect of this bias is substantial in samples with limited inter-firm movement. The correlation between worker and firm contributions to wage equations is unambiguously positive.

REDUCTION OF CONSTRAINT SYSTEMS

Geometric modeling by constraints leads to large systems of algebraic equations. This paper studies bipartite graphs underlaid by systems of equations. It shows how these graphs make possible to polynomially decompose these systems into well constrained, over-, and underconstrained subsystems. This paper also gives an efficient method to decompose well constrained systems into irreducible ones. These decompositions greatly speed up the resolution in case of reducible systems. They also allow debugging systems of constraints.

The role of hydrophobic matching on transmembrane helix packing in cells

Folding and packing of membrane proteins are highly influenced by the lipidic component of the membrane. Here, we explore how the hydrophobic mismatch (the difference between the hydrophobic span of a transmembrane protein region and the hydrophobic thickness of the lipid membrane around the protein) influences transmembrane helix packing in a cellular environment. Random quasi-phase matching in congruent lithium tantalate waveguides by proton exchange

A report is presented on broadband second-harmonic generation in the range between 930 and 970 nm using random quasi-phase matching in a planar waveguide fabricated by soft proton exchange in congruent lithium tantalate. Bulk and waveguide measurements are compared, outlining the averaging role of guided-wave modes and their interactions with respect to spectral acceptance and near-field profile.

A trie-based approach for compacting automata

International audience; We describe a new technique for reducing the number of nodes and symbols in automata based on tries. The technique stems from some results on anti-dictionaries for data compression and does not need to retain the input string, differently from other methods based on compact automata. The net effect is that of obtaining a lighter automaton than the directed acyclic word graph (DAWG) of Blumer et al., as it uses less nodes, still with arcs labeled by single characters.
