Approximate Osher–Solomon schemes for hyperbolic systems

2016

This paper is concerned with a new kind of Riemann solvers for hyperbolic systems, which can be applied both in the conservative and nonconservative cases. In particular, the proposed schemes constitute a simple version of the classical Osher-Solomon Riemann solver, and extend in some sense the schemes proposed in Dumbser and Toro (2011) 19,20. The viscosity matrix of the numerical flux is constructed as a linear combination of functional evaluations of the Jacobian of the flux at several quadrature points. Some families of functions have been proposed to this end: Chebyshev polynomials and rational-type functions. Our schemes have been tested with different initial value Riemann problems f…

We consider the network of 5 416 537 articles of English Wikipedia extracted in 2017. Using the recent reduced Google matrix (REGOMAX) method we construct the reduced network of 230 articles (nodes) of infectious diseases and 195 articles of world countries. This method generates the reduced directed network between all 425 nodes taking into account all direct and indirect links with pathways via the huge global network. PageRank and CheiRank algorithms are used to determine the most influential diseases with the top PageRank diseases being Tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, and Malaria. From the reduced Google matrix, we determine the sensitivity of world countries to specific diseases integrating th…

Contagion in Bitcoin Networks

2019

12 pages, 6 figures. Paper accepted in 2nd Workshop on Blockchain and Smart Contract Technologies (BSCT 2019), workshop satellite of 22nd International Conference on Business Information Systems (BIS 2019); International audience; We construct the Google matrices of bitcoin transactions for all year quarters during the period of January 11, 2009 till April 10, 2013. During the last quarters the network size contains about 6 million users (nodes) with about 150 million transactions. From PageRank and CheiRank probabilities, analogous to trade import and export, we determine the dimensionless trade balance of each user and model the contagion propagation on the network assuming that a user go…

Novel Version of PageRank, CheiRank and 2DRank for Wikipedia in Multilingual Network Using Social Impact

2020

International audience; Nowadays, information describing navigation behaviour of internet users are used in several fields, e-commerce, economy, sociology and data science. Such information can be extracted from different knowledge bases, including business-oriented ones. In this paper, we propose a new model for the PageRank, CheiRank and 2DRank algorithm based on the use of clickstream and pageviews data in the google matrix construction. We used data from Wikipedia and analysed links between over 20 million articles from 11 language editions. We extracted over 1.4 billion source-destination pairs of articles from SQL dumps and more than 700 million pairs from XML dumps. Additionally, we …

The chemical effects of molecular sol–gel entrapment

2007

Chemical conversions within the cages of doped sol-gel porous oxides take place with unique advantages over reactions in solution as the glassy matrix has tremendous effects on the reactivity of the entrapped molecules. The chemical properties of sol-gel materials can be tailored in an immense range of values and chemists are increasingly achieving control on reactions taking place within these matrices, including crucially important photovoltaics. Highlighting recent major advancements, we show in this tutorial review how this is actually taking place.

Silk fibroin scaffolds enhance cell commitment of adult rat cardiac progenitor cells

2013

The use of three-dimensional (3D) cultures may induce cardiac progenitor cells to synthesize their own extracellular matrix (ECM) and sarcomeric proteins to initiate cardiac differentiation. 3D cultures grown on synthetic scaffolds may favour the implantation and survival of stem cells for cell therapy when pharmacological therapies are not efficient in curing cardiovascular diseases and when organ transplantation remains the only treatment able to rescue the patient's life. Silk fibroin-based scaffolds may be used to increase cell affinity to biomaterials and may be chemically modified to improve cell adhesion. In the present study, porous, partially orientated and electrospun nanometric n…

Inorganic/Organic interface in biominerals : unveiling the complex structure of two calcitic biomineral models, the red coral Corallium rubrum and th…

2022

Biominerals are organo-minerals structures produced by living systems. Since the Cambrian, they contribute to the adaptation of living organisms to different environments by fulfilling a variety of combined functions that go along with adapted morphologies. One of the aims of biomineralization is to understand how organisms "sculpt" these complex morphologies, in particular at nano and molecular scales. The aim of this PhD work was to understand the complex relationships between the organic and mineral phases. To this end, I focused my analyses on two calcitic biomineral models: 1) the red coral Corallium rubrum and 2) the prismatic shell of the Mediterranean fan mussel Pinna nobilis. My wo…

Profiling of endogenous peptides by multidimensional liquid chromatography: On-line automated sample cleanup for biomarker discovery in human urine.

2009

A simple and flexible system, employing a column switching technique, has been designed to allow the analysis of peptides and proteins smaller than 15 kDa by molecular weight in filtered urine samples by performing a direct on-column injection utilising simultaneous sample clean-up and trace enrichment. The positively charged peptides and small proteins in the sample are attracted to the inner, negatively charged pore structure of the RAM-SCX column while the larger proteins and uncharged or negatively charged compounds are excluded. After preconditioning with the biological sample, large amounts of sample can be injected. Several important and adjustable parameters for the proper use of a …

An automated on-line multidimensional HPLC system for protein and peptide mapping with integrated sample preparation.

2002

A comprehensive on-line two-dimensional 2D-HPLC system with integrated sample preparation was developed for the analysis of proteins and peptides with a molecular weight below 20 kDa. The system setup provided fast separations and high resolving power and is considered to be a complementary technique to 2D gel electrophoresis in proteomics. The on-line system reproducibly resolved approximately 1000 peaks within the total analysis time of 96 min and avoided sample losses by off-line sample handling. The low-molecular-weight target analytes were separated from the matrix using novel silica-based restricted access materials (RAM) with ion exchange functionalities. The size-selective sample fr…
