Exercise therapy for chronic musculoskeletal pain: Innovation by altering pain memories.

2015

Even though nociceptive pathology has often long subsided, the brain of patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain has typically acquired a protective (movement-related) pain memory. Exercise therapy for patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain is often hampered by such pain memories. Here the authors explain how musculoskeletal therapists can alter pain memories in patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain, by integrating pain neuroscience education with exercise interventions. The latter includes applying graded exposure in vivo principles during exercise therapy, for targeting the brain circuitries orchestrated by the amygdala (the memory of fear centre in the brain). Before initiatin…

The Inhibitory Effects of Prednisone, 16-Methylen-Prednisolone, and Acth on Con-A Induced Lymphokines (Interferon-Y) as Measured by the Chemiluminesc…

1988

When lymphocytes are stimulated with mitogens or antigens they are enhanced via a cascade of lymphokines to produce interferon-y (IFN-y). IFN-y augments the H2O2 secretion of human monocytes which indirectly can be measured by chemiluminescence. We tested prednisone, 16-methylen-prednisolone and ACTH for their effect to inhibit the Con-A induced stimulation of the chemiluminescence-activity. All three hormones inhibited significantly the stimulation: prednisone up to 52.5% (concentration = 150 micrograms/ml, p = 0.000005), 16-methylen-prednisolone up to 22.5% (concentration = 2.5 micrograms/ml, p = 0.006) and ACTH up to 33% (concentration = 10 micrograms/ml, p = 0.0036).

Outcome measurements following palatal soft tissue graft harvesting: A review

2021

Background Free gingival graft (FGG) and connective tissue graft (CTG) are two of the most commonly techniques performed in periodontal and peri-implant plastic surgery. Although several outcome measurements have been proposed for evaluation of palatal wound healing and patient morbidity, a comprehensive review about these variables is lacking. The objective of this review is to present comprehensive information about outcome measurements related to postoperative palatal wound healing and postoperative patient-reported morbidity after FGG or CTG procedures. Material and methods An electronic search of English language dental literature in the Medline database via PubMed access was conducted…

A pyrroloquinazoline derivative with anti-inflammatory and analgesic activity by dual inhibition of cyclo-oxygenase-2 and 5-lipoxygenase

2002

Abstract In a previous study, we reported a new pyrroloquinazoline derivative, 3-(4′-acetoxy-3′,5′-dimethoxy)benzylidene-1,2-dihydropyrrolo[2,1- b ]quinazoline-9-one (PQ), which inhibited human purified 5-lipoxygenase activity and prostaglandin E 2 release in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells. In the present work, we show that PQ inhibits cyclo-oxygenase-2 activity in intact cell assays (human monocytes) and purified enzyme preparations (ovine isoenzymes) without affecting cyclo-oxygenase-1 activity. This behaviour was confirmed in vivo by using the zymosan-injected mouse air pouch model, where PQ caused a marked reduction in cell migration and leukotriene B 4 levels at 4 h, as …

Applicability of a displaced-beam laser scintillometer in a sparse tall Mediterranean vegetation

2009

Recent studies showed that the sensible heat flux (H) measured with an array of eddy-correlation system has an high spatial and temporal variability over sparse tall vegetation, such as olive trees, whereas H determined with a displaced-beam laser scintillometer (DBLS) appeared to behave more stable. In this study, the results are shown of two field experiments performed over an olive tree plantation in Sicily in 2007 and 2008, in order to investigate the applicability of a DBSL in combination with remote sensing techniques for the actual evapotranspiration assessment. In 2007 the laser beams was closer to the top of the canopy than in 2008. Various aspects of the scintillation method will …

Different Measurement Setup Configurations for Space Charge test in Mini Cable Specimens with the PEA Method

2019

Under DC stress, the space charge accumulation is believed one of the most responsible of dielectrics ageing. For this reason, due to the increase of the HVDC transmission, a recommendation has been proposed. The latter want to introduce the space charge measure, with the PEA method, in cable specimens during the prequalification or type tests. Considering the several issues related to this kind of measures the aim of the proposed work is find a measurement setup for mini cable specimens which is able to provide a clear and clean space charge profile. Therefore, different tests have been made in this work. In particular, the length of the cable specimen, the width of the pulse electrodes, a…

Mobility determination of lead isotopes in glass for retrospective radon measurements rad

2008

In retrospective radon measurements, the 22-y half life of 210Pb is used as an advantage. 210Pb is often considered to be relatively immobile in glass after alpha recoil implanted by 222Rn progenies. The diffusion of 210Pb could, however, lead to uncertain wrong retrospective radon exposure estimations if 210Pb is mobile and can escape from glass, or lost as a result of cleaning-induced surface modification. This diffusion was studied by a radiotracer technique, where 209Pb was used as a tracer in a glass matrix for which the elemental composition is known. Using the ion guide isotope separator on-line technique, the 209Pb atoms were implanted into the glass with an energy of 39 keV. The di…

Dynamic Magnetic and Optical Insight into a High Performance Pentagonal Bipyramidal Dy(III) Single-Ion Magnet

2017

The pentagonal bipyramidal single-ion magnets (SIMs) are among the most attractive prototypes of high-performance single-molecule magnets (SMMs). Here, a fluorescence-active phosphine oxide ligand CyPh2PO (=cyclohexyl(diphenyl)phosphine oxide) was introduced into [Dy(CyPh2PO)2(H2O)5]Br3⋅2 (CyPh2PO)⋅EtOH⋅3 H2O, and combined dynamic magnetic measurement, optical characterization, ab initio calculation, and magneto-optical correlation of this high-performance pseudo-D5h DyIII SIM with large Ueff (508(2) K) and high magnetic hysteresis temperature (19 K) were performed. This work provides a deeper insight into the rational design of promising molecular magnets. peerReviewed

Evidence of Partial Seniority Conservation in the pi g9/2 Shell for the N=50 Isotones

2022

The reduced transition probabilities for the 4-> and 2->0 transitions in 92Mo and 94Ru and for the 4->2 and 6->4 transitions in 90Zr have been determined in this experiment making use of a multinucleon transfer reaction. These results have been interpreted on the basis of realistic shell-model calculations in the f5/2, p3/2, p1/2, and g9/2 proton valence space. Only the combination of extensive lifetime information and large scale shell-model calculations allowed the extent of the seniority conservation in the N=50 g9/2 orbital to be understood. The conclusion is that seniority is largely conserved in the first πg9/2 orbital.
