Supporting a Pseudo-TDMA Access Scheme in Mesh Wireless Networks

2013

Wireless mesh networks appear a promising solution for pro- viding ubiquitous low-cost wireless access, but cannot rely on simple CSMA access protocols because of the critical inefficiencies that arise in topologies with hidden nodes. To overcome these limitations, some important protocol extensions based on synchronization and reservation mechanisms have been ratified. In this paper we show that an alternative approach to the standardiza- tion of new features and signaling messages for mesh networks can be the utilization of programmable nodes able to execute different MAC protocols programmed on the fly. Signaling messages are used only for disseminating the new protocol among the nodes. …

Testbed implementation of the meta-MAC protocol

2016

The meta-MAC protocol is a systematic and automatic method to dynamically combine any set of existing MAC protocols into a single higher layer MAC protocol. We present a proof-of-concept implementation of the meta-MAC protocol by utilizing a programmable wireless MAC processor (WMP) on top of a commodity wireless card in combination with a host-level software module. The implementation allows us to combine, with certain constraints, a number of protocols each represented as an extended finite state machine. To illustrate the combination principle, we combine protocols of the same type but with varying parameters in a wireless mesh network. Specifically, we combine TDMA protocols with all po…

A Wireless Mesh Network-based System for Hotspots Deployment and Management

2007

In recent years Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs) or hotspots, as they are commonly known, have emerged as a promising networking platform to extend network connectivity in public venues, providing local coverage for Internet applications on the move in urban areas and rural environments. Wireless hotspots using 802.11-based technology have popped up in corporate offices, coffeehouses, airports, restaurants and bookstores worldwide. For all their utility and ease of use the 802.11 wireless protocol, known as WiFi, has become the mobile connectivity mechanism of choice for business people, travelers, villagers, and everyone else. Unfortunately, even with the protocol's ease of use and its…

Modelling Polycrystalline Materials: An Overview of Three-Dimensional Grain-Scale Mechanical Models

2014

International audience; A survey of recent contributions on three-dimensional grain-scale mechanical modelling of polycrystalline materials is given in this work. The analysis of material micro-structures requires the generation of reliable micro-morphologies and affordable computational meshes as well as the description of the mechanical behavior of the elementary constituents and their interactions. The polycrystalline microstructure is characterized by the topology, morphology and crystallographic orientations of the individual grains and by the grain interfaces and microstructural defects, within the bulk grains and at the inter-granular interfaces. Their analysis has been until recentl…

A high-resolution layer-wise discontinuous Galerkin formulation for multilayered composite plates

2020

Abstract In this work, a novel high-resolution formulation for multilayered composite plates is presented. The formulations is referred to as high-resolution since it combines (i) Layer-Wise plate theories, which are based on a per-layer, high-order expansion of the primary variables throughout the plate’s thickness, providing a detailed layer-level description of the sought solution; (ii) The discontinuous Galerkin method, a numerical approach based on a discontinuous representation of the unknown fields over the mesh elements and on the introduction of boundary integral operators enforcing inter-element continuity, which allow the natural treatment of high-order mesh elements and provide …

Estimating the temperature evolution of foodstuffs during freezing with a 3D meshless numerical method

2015

Abstract Freezing processes are characterised by sharp changes in specific heat capacity and thermal conductivity for temperatures close to the freezing point. This leads to strong nonlinearities in the governing PDE that may be difficult to resolve using traditional numerical methods. In this work we present a meshless numerical method, based on a local Hermite radial basis function collocation approach in finite differencing mode, to allow the solution of freezing problems. By introducing a Kirchhoff transformation and solving the governing equations in Kirchhoff space, the strength of nonlinearity is reduced while preserving the structure of the heat equation. In combination with the hig…

A predictive approach for a real-time remote visualization of large meshes

2012

Déjà sur HAL; Remote access to large meshes is the subject of studies since several years. We propose in this paper a contribution to the problem of remote mesh viewing. We work on triangular meshes. After a study of existing methods of remote viewing, we propose a visualization approach based on a client-server architecture, in which almost all operations are performed on the server. Our approach includes three main steps: a first step of partitioning the original mesh, generating several fragments of the original mesh that can be supported by the supposed smaller Transfer Control Protocol (TCP) window size of the network, a second step called pre-simplification of the mesh partitioned, ge…

Study and Comparison of Surface Roughness Measurements

2014

Journées du Groupe de Travail en Modélisation Géométrique (GTMG'14), Lyon; This survey paper focus on recent researches whose goal is to optimize treatments on 3D meshes, thanks to a study of their surface features, and more precisely their roughness and saliency. Applications like watermarking or lossy compression can benefit from a precise roughness detection, to better hide the watermarks or quantize coarsely these areas, without altering visually the shape. Despite investigations on scale dependence leading to multi-scale approaches, an accurate roughness or pattern characterization is still lacking, but challenging for those treatments. We think there is still room for investigations t…

Hybrid QoS Based Routing for IEEE 802.16j Mesh Infrastructure

2014

Acceptance rate: 29%; International audience; With the growth of wireless networks, Wireless Mesh Network (WMN) has appeared as an emerging key solution for broadband Internet access with a low-cost deployment. Moreover, providing QoS guarantees for real-time and streaming applications such as VoIP (Voice over IP) and VoD (Video on Demand) is a challenging issue in such environment. In this paper, we propose a hybrid wireless mesh architecture to provide mesh clients with Internet access while guaranteeing QoS. It is formed by an IEEE 802.16j based infrastructure and several IEEE 802.11s based client domains. A lustering algorithm is developed to enhance scalability issues within the mesh i…

HQMR: Hybrid QoS based Routing Protocol for Wireless Mesh Environment

2015

International audience; Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) have been attracting more and more interest from both academic and industrial environments for their seamless broadband connectivity to Internet networks. Besides, providing QoS guarantees for real-time and streaming applications such as Voice over IP (VoIP) and Video on Demand (VoD) is a challenging issue in such environment. Thus, we propose a novel QoS based routing protocol for wireless mesh infrastructure, called Hybrid QoS Mesh Routing (HQMR). Moreover, a clustering algorithm is developed to enhance scalability issues within the mesh infrastructure. HQMR is composed of two routing sub-protocols: a reactive routing protocol for intr…
