A central nervous system-focused treatment approach for people with frozen shoulder: protocol for a randomized clinical trial
2019
Background: Frozen shoulder (FS) is a musculoskeletal condition of poorly understood etiology that results in shoulder pain and large mobility deficits. Despite some physical therapy interventions, such as joint mobilization and exercise, having shown therapeutic benefit, a definitive treatment does not currently exist. The aim of this study will be to compare the effectiveness of a central nervous system (CNS)-directed treatment program versus a standard medical and physical therapy care program on outcomes in participants with FS. Methods/design: The study is a two-group, randomized clinical trial with blinding of participants and assessors. Participants will be recruited via referrals fr…

Predictor variables for half marathon race time in recreational female runners
2011
Import JabRef | WosArea General and Internal Medicine; International audience; INTRODUCTION: The relationship between skin-fold thickness and running performance has been investigated from 100 m to the marathon distance, except the half marathon distance. OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether anthropometry characteristics or training practices were related to race time in 42 recreational female half marathoners to determine the predictor variables of half-marathon race time and to inform future novice female half marathoners. METHODS: Observational field study at the 'Half Marathon Basel' in Switzerland. RESULTS: In the bivariate analysis, body mass (r = 0.60), body mass index (r = 0.48), body …
High performance algorithms based on a new wawelet expansion for time dependent acoustics obstale scattering
2007
This paper presents a highly parallelizable numerical method to solve time dependent acoustic obstacle scattering problems. The method proposed is a generalization of the ``operator expansion method" developed by Recchioni and Zirilli [SIAM J.~Sci.~Comput., 25 (2003), 1158-1186]. The numerical method proposed reduces, via a perturbative approach, the solution of the scattering problem to the solution of a sequence of systems of first kind integral equations. The numerical solution of these systems of integral equations is challenging when scattering problems involving realistic obstacles and small wavelengths are solved. A computational method has been developed to solve these challenging p…
First-principles modelling for time-resolved ARPES under different pump-probe conditions
2021
First-principles methods for time-resolved angular resolved photoelectron spectroscopy play a pivotal role in providing interpretation and microscopic understanding of the complex experimental data and in exploring novel observables or observation conditions that may be achieved in future experiments. Here we describe an efficient, reliable and scalable first-principles method for tr-ARPES based on time-dependent density functional theory including propagation and surface effects usually discarded in the widely used many-body techniques based on computing the non-equilibrium spectral function and discuss its application to a variety of pump–probe conditions. We identify four conditions, dep…
Simulating pump-probe photo-electron and absorption spectroscopy on the attosecond time-scale with time-dependent density-functional theory
2013
Molecular absorption and photoelectron spectra can be efficiently predicted with real-time time-dependent density functional theory. We show herein how these techniques can be easily extended to study time-resolved pump-probe experiments, in which a system response (absorption or electron emission) to a probe pulse is measured in an excited state. This simulation tool helps with the interpretation of fast-evolving attosecond time-resolved spectroscopic experiments, in which electronic motion must be followed at its natural timescale. We show how the extra degrees of freedom (pump-pulse duration, intensity, frequency, and time delay), which are absent in a conventional steady-state experimen…
Luovat ja taidelähtöiset menetelmät lastenkodin arjessa : ohjaajan ja lapsen vuorovaikutustapojen rikastaminen
2016
Tämän tutkielman tarkoituksena on edesauttaa vuorovaikutusta rikastavien, luovien ja taidelähtöisten menetelmien käyttöä lastensuojelun sijaishuollossa, jossa tehdään monipuolisia kohtaamisen tapoja edellyttävää ihmissuhdetyötä. Tutkimuksen viitekehys rakentuu sosiaalisia piirteitä korostavista taiteen kehityssuunnista. Tutkimuksessa käsitellään muun muassa dialogisen taiteen teoriaa sekä taidelähtöiseen toimintaan liittyvää esteettistä etääntymistä ja mahdollisuuksille avointa tilaa. Tutkimus on lähtökohdiltaan laadullinen tutkimus, jonka ihmis- ja tiedonkäsitys perustuu fenomenologis-hermeneuttiseen perinteeseen. Tutkimusstrategiana on toimintatutkimus, jossa tutkimuksen osat ovat muotout…
Discrete Tomography Reconstruction Through a New Memetic Algorithm
2008
Discrete tomography is a particular case of computerized tomography that deals with the reconstruction of objects made of just one homogeneous material, where it is sometimes possible to reduce the number of projections to no more than four. Most methods for standard computerized tomography cannot be applied in the former case and ad hoc techniques must be developed to handle so few projections.
Search for lepton flavour violation in the e mu continuum with the ATLAS detector in root s=7 TeV pp collisions at the LHC
2012
This paper presents a search for the t-channel exchange of an R-parity violating scalar top quark ([~ over t] ) in the e[superscript ±]μ[superscript ∓] continuum using 2.1 fb[superscript −1] of data collected by the ATLAS detector in s√=7 TeV pp collisions at the Large Hadron Collider. Data are found to be consistent with the expectation from the Standard Model backgrounds. Limits on R-parity-violating couplings at 95 % C.L. are calculated as a function of the scalar top mass ( m[subscript bar over t]). The upper limits on the production cross section for pp→eμX, through the t-channel exchange of a scalar top quark, ranges from 170 fb for m[subscript ~ over t]=95 GeV to 30 fb for m[subscrip…
Research focusing on plant performance in constructed wetlands and agronomic application of treated wastewater – A set of experimental studies in Sic…
2019
Constructed wetlands are sustainable technologies for the treatment of wastewater. These biological systems have been widely studied throughout the world for more than 30 years; however, most studies have focused on the effects of design and engineering on pollutant removal from wastewater. Undoubtedly, agro-technical aspects have been given too little consideration by research. This paper reports the main results of a set of experiments carried out on two pilot horizontal subsurface flow systems in Sicily (Italy). Festuca, Lolium and Pennisetum spp. in combination and three emergent macrophytes-Arundo donax L., Cyperus alternifolius L. and Typha latifolia L.-alone, were assessed. The aim o…
