Promoting emotional skills in early adolescents with mental health conditions in music therapy : a content analysis of focus group interviews

2023

Introduction: Music therapy is actively used with early adolescents in relation to their emotional skill development. Yet, the conceptualization of emotional skills is typically not systematically addressed in therapeutic practice. This study examined music therapists’ views on the progress of emotional skills when working with early adoles-cents with mental health conditions. The study also explored what kind of methods the therapists use with the target group, and the applicability of a previously pub-lished conceptual model. Method: We conducted a deductive-inductive content analysis of transcripts from four focus group interviews among 13 professional music therapists. Results: The ther…

Complex singularities in KdV solutions

2016

In the small dispersion regime, the KdV solution exhibits rapid oscillations in its spatio-temporal dependence. We show that these oscillations are caused by the presence of complex singularities that approach the real axis. We give a numerical estimate of the asymptotic dynamics of the poles.

Zinc isotope variations in archeological human teeth (Lapa do Santo, Brazil) reveal dietary transitions in childhood and no contamination from gloves

2020

International audience; Zinc (Zn) isotope ratios of dental enamel are a promising tracer for dietary reconstruction in archeology, but its use is still in its infancy. A recent study demonstrated a high risk of Zn contamination from nitrile, and latex gloves used during chemical sample preparation. Here we assess the potential impact of the use of such gloves during enamel sampling on the Zn isotope composition of teeth from a population of early Holocene hunter gatherers from Lapa do Santo, Lagoa Santa, Minas Gerais, Brazil. We first examined the amount of Zn and its isotopic composition released from the gloves used in this study by soaking them in weak nitric acid and water. We compared …

OPKINE, a multipurpose program for kinetics

1991

The program OPKINE is presented for the study of reaction mechanisms and multicomponent analysis in dynamic conditions. This program is written in FORTRAN-77 for IBM 30/90 and VAX 8300 computers, and permits the simultaneous evaluation of both rate constants and initial reagent concentrations or, alternatively, rate constants and sensitivities. Up to 20 kinetic curves, with up to 400 points each, can be treated to evaluate up to 40 parameters. Integration of the system of differential equations is performed by means of the Runge–Kutta–Fehlberg method. OPKINE is provided with the Simplex, and modified versions of the Davidon–Fletcher–Powell and Gauss–Newton–Marquardt optimization methods. A …

The molecular structure of N-hydroxyurea

1996

Ab initio calculations were performed on the tautomers and conformers of N-hydroxyurea using a 6-31G** basis set. The minimum-energy structures have been found and the importance of the intramolecular hydrogen bond as the stabilizing factor was pointed out. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

New super-orthogonal space-time trellis codes using differential M-PSK for noncoherent mobile communication systems with two transmit antennas

2010

Published version of an article in the journal: Annals of Telecommunications-Annales Des Telecommunications. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s12243-010-0191-1 In this paper, we develop super-orthogonal space-time trellis codes (SOSTTCs) using differential binary phase-shift keying, quadriphase-shift keying and eight-phase shift keying for noncoherent communication systems with two transmit antennas without channel state information at the receiver. Based on a differential encoding scheme proposed by Tarokh and Jafarkhani, we propose a new decoding algorithm with reduced decoding complexity. To evaluate the performance of the SOSTTCs by way of computer simulat…

Comparison of implementations of the lattice-Boltzmann method

2008

AbstractSimplicity of coding is usually an appealing feature of the lattice-Boltzmann method (LBM). Conventional implementations of LBM are often based on the two-lattice or the two-step algorithm, which however suffer from high memory consumption and poor computational performance, respectively. The aim of this work was to identify implementations of LBM that would achieve high computational performance with low memory consumption. Effects of memory addressing schemes were investigated in particular. Data layouts for velocity distribution values were also considered, and they were found to be related to computational performance. A novel bundle data layout was therefore introduced. Address…

Stochastic analysis of dynamical systems with delayed control forces

2006

Abstract Reduction of structural vibration in actively controlled dynamical system is usually performed by means of convenient control forces dependent of the dynamic response. In this paper the existent studies will be extended to dynamical systems subjected to non-normal delta-correlated random process with delayed control forces. Taylor series expansion of the control forces has been introduced and the statistics of the dynamical response have been obtained by means of the extended Ito differential rule. Numerical application provided shows the capabilities of the proposed method to analyze stochastic dynamic systems with delayed actions under delta-correlated process contrasting statist…
