Orientation and molecular contacts of melatonin confined into AOT and lecithin reversed micellar systems

Abstract The state of increasing amounts of melatonin (MLT) confined in dry AOT or lecithin reversed micelles dispersed in CCl 4 has been investigated by UV–vis and 1 H NMR spectroscopies. The experimental results are consistent with MLT totally entrapped in reversed micelles, as a consequence of specific melatonin/surfactant interaction; the main driving force of the MLT solubilization in the core of reversed micelles is the establishment of H-bonding between the MLT NH groups (both indolic and amidic) and the head group of surfactants. Physicochemical investigation of acrylamide solubilization in sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl)sulfosuccinate and lecithin reversed micelles.

The state of acrylamide confined within dry sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl)sulfosuccinate (AOT) and lecithin reversed micelles dispersed in CCl4 has been investigated by FTIR and H-1 NMR spectroscopy. Measurements have been performed at 25 degreesC as a function of the acrylamide-to-surfactant molar ratio (R) at a fixed surfactant concentration (0.1 mol kg(-1)). The analysis of experimental data, corroborated by the results of SAXS measurements, is consistent with the hypothesis that acrylamide is quite uniformly distributed among reversed micelles mainly located in proximity to the surfactant head-group region and that its presence induces significant unidimensional growth of micellar aggregates.…

Predation risk and habitat selection of Australian house mice , Mus domesticus , during an incipient plague: desperate behaviour due to food depletion

We studied habitat selection and foraging behaviour of the house mouse (Mus domesticus) related to increasing mouse densities and depleting food resources over the breeding season. The study was conducted during the increase phase of an incipient outbreak of mice in a grain-growing area of southeastern Australia. A 3-year rotation created a mosaic of large paddocks of grain crop, pasture, and fallow. The narrow fence lines between paddocks provide an important stable habitat for the mice. We monitored population densities with live-trapping and habitat preference by measuring giving-up densities (GUD) using artificial food patches. Background & Aims: Obesity-associated inflammation is a key player in the pathogenesis of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). However, the role of macrophage scavenger receptor 1 (MSR1, CD204) remains incompletely understood. Cobalt nickel bimetallic nanoparticles were synthesized by changing the sequence of the chemical reduction of Co(II) and Ni(II) ions confined in the core of bis(2-ethylhexyl)phosphate (2)., and Ni(DEHP)(2). A point mutation in the Ncr1 signal peptide impairs the development of innate lymphoid cell subsets.

International audience; NKp46 (CD335) is a surface receptor shared by both human and mouse natural killer (NK) cells and innate lymphoid cells (ILCs) that transduces activating signals necessary to eliminate virus-infected cells and tumors. Here, we describe a spontaneous point mutation of cysteine to arginine (C14R) in the signal peptide of the NKp46 protein in congenic Ly5.1 mice and the newly generated NCR(B6C14R) strain. Ly5.1(C14R) NK cells expressed similar levels of Ncr1 mRNA as C57BL/6, but showed impaired surface NKp46 and reduced ability to control melanoma tumors in vivo.
