Public and Private Economic Feasibility of Green Areas as a Passive Energy Measure: A Case Study in the Mediterranean City of Trapani in Southern Ita…

2022

Green infrastructure in urban environments provides a wide range of ecological, social, aesthetic, and health co-benefits. Urban plant covers in particular contribute to improved outdoor environmental conditions that, in turn, influence the energy behavior of buildings and their indoor thermo-hygrometric comfort performance. Within this context, this study illustrates a methodology aimed at verifying the economic feasibility of alternative types of green areas for public and private stakeholders, which are analyzed as passive energy measures. Therefore, our methodology integrates approaches from different disciplines and consists of a microclimatic analysis of different vegetation scenarios…

Effects of retrofit in public building schools provided by urban green infrastructure: a case study in southern Italy

2022

Post-pandemic financial efforts have been set by the EU Commission and European governments regarding the renovation of European building heritage. Building schools will be object of interest to be transformed in more resilient buildings through improvement building energy performance which guarantee environmental sustainability; the renovation of building school heritage in Italy aims to ease new students' learning process through adaptation and implementation of new didactic methodologies. In this study is described a multi-scale methodology adopted to evaluate both at urban scale and building scale different scenarios that adopt green infrastructure as vegetation and building integrated …

A Statistical Approach for A-Posteriori Deployment of Microclimate Sensors in Museums: A Case Study

2022

[EN] The deployment of sensors is the first issue encountered when microclimate monitoring is planned in spaces devoted to the conservation of artworks. Sometimes, the first decision regarding the position of sensors may not be suitable for characterising the microclimate close to climate sensitive artworks or should be revised in light of new circumstances. This paper fits into this context by proposing a rational approach for a posteriori deployment of microclimate sensors in museums where long-term temperature and relative humidity observations were available (here, the Rosenborg Castle, Copenhagen, Denmark). Different statistical tools such as box-and-whisker plots, principal component …

A multifaceted field sampling approach for the management of extremely narrow endemic vascular plant species

2022

Extremely narrow endemic plant species (ENEs) are generally connected with micro- refugia characterized by particular environmental conditions. In-depth knowledge of the ecological requirements of ENEs is fundamental to plan appropriate conservation measures. Using cross-cutting technology, this paper gives a multifaceted approach to collect on-site data on the ecology of ENEs, defines the protocols for a correct sampling design and describes the type of equipment, the time and expenditure needed. Our sampling approach is based on two orthogonal transects, long enough to extrapolate the whole ecological gradient across the area of occupancy of the target species. Microclimatic data are reco…
