Synthesis and catalytic properties for olefin polymerization of new vanadium complexes containing silsesquioxane ligands with different denticity

A series of new vanadium-silsesquioxanes (2a − 2d) was prepared by reacting VCl4 with not fully condensed silsesquioxanes (having from one to four silanol groups) and evaluated as pre-catalysts in olefin polymerization. The activation of 2a − 2d with EtAlCl2 generated highly active catalysts for ethylene polymerization, yielding high molar mass polymers with narrow dispersity. Ultra-high molar mass polyethylenes, Mw up to 4 × 106 g mol−1, were obtained with methylaluminoxane and Al(iBu)3/[Ph3C][B(C6F5)4] as activators. This thesis aims at the development of physical relations between the intricate 3D features of metallic microstructures and the mechanical properties of the material. For understanding which are the microstructural determinants of the resultingmechanical behaviour of metals, a deep quantitative characterisation of the microstructure is needed. An effective stress based shear strength criterion for unsaturated compacted double-porosity clays

An effective stress based shear strength criterion is proposed taking into account the fundamental effects of microstructure characteristics on retention properties of compacted double-porosity clays and their overall coupled hydro-mechanical behaviour. Results of triaxial compression tests carried out on saturated and unsaturated samples of a compacted scaly clay show that points representative of failure conditions depict a unique failure envelope when the macropore degree of saturation is used in the definition of the effective stress and its evolution with the suction is taken into account. We introduce some of the most common types of high-frequency financial data: tick-by-tick data, trade andquote data, order bookdata, andmarket member data. We describe the types of variables that are usually available in the most popular high-frequency financial databases. We discuss the issues related to the handling of these data, including cleaning protocols, timing issues, and issues related to data size. We then briefly consider the issues related to the stylized facts detected in the empirical analysis of high- frequency data.
