Torilis pseudonodosa Bianca (Apiaceae) – new species for the flora of Ukraine

2022

We report the first record of Torilis pseudonodosa Bianca (Apiaceae) from Ukraine. It was found on 28th of May 2021 in the “Potiivska” section of the Black Sea Biosphere Reserve near the village of Zaliznyi Port (Southern Ukraine). Torilis pseudonodosa previously was known from various countries in the Mediterranean Basin and Western Asia, but not from Ukraine nor elsewhere in Eastern Europe. We discovered a hitherto unknown population of Torilis pseudonodosa during the 15th EDGG Field Workshop, an international expedition of the Eurasian Dry Grassland Group (EDGG) taking place in Southern Ukraine, from 23 May to 2 June 2021. We present the taxon, its morphology and general distribution, de…

Object Migration Automata for Non-equal Partitioning Problems with Known Partition Sizes

2021

Part 4: Automated Machine Learning; International audience; Solving partitioning problems in random environments is a classic and challenging task, and has numerous applications. The existing Object Migration Automaton (OMA) and its proposed enhancements, which include the Pursuit and Transitivity phenomena, can solve problems with equi-sized partitions. Currently, these solutions also include one where the partition sizes possess a Greatest Common Divisor (GCD). In this paper, we propose an OMA-based solution that can solve problems with both equally and non-equally-sized groups, without restrictions on their sizes. More specifically, our proposed approach, referred to as the Partition Siz…

The Human Biodiversity in the Middle of the Mediterranean. Study of native and settlers populations on the Sicilian context

2020

The Assessment of Risk Factors for Long-term Survival Outcome in ypN0 Patients With Rectal Cancer After Neoadjuvant Therapy and Radical Anterior Rese…

2021

Abstract Background The main negative prognostic factors in patients with rectal cancer after radical treatment include regional lymph node involvement, lymphovascular invasion, and perineural invasion. However, some patients still develop cancer recurrence despite the absence of the above risk factors. The aim of the study was to assess clinicopathological factors influencing long-term oncologic outcomes in ypN0M0 rectal cancer patients after neoadjuvant therapy and radical anterior resection. Methods A retrospective survival analysis was performed on a group of 195 patients. We assessed clinicopathological factors which included tumor regression grade, number of lymph nodes in the specime…

Optical Quality Comparison of Conventional and Hole-Visian Implantable Collamer Lens at Different Degrees of Decentering

2012

To compare the optical quality of implantable Collamer lens (ICL) with and without central hole (Hole ICL and conventional ICL) at different degrees of decentering.Experimental laboratory investigation.Wavefront aberrations of the -3, -6, and -12 diopter (D) V4b and -3, -6, and -12 D V4c ICLs were measured in 3 conditions-centered and decentered 0.3 and 0.6 mm-at 3-mm and 4.5-mm pupils. The root mean square of total higher order aberrations, trefoil, coma, tetrafoil, secondary astigmatism, and spherical aberration were evaluated. In addition, point spread function and simulated retinal images of ICLs were calculated from the wavefront aberrations for each ICL and all conditions of decenteri…

Il Mediterraneo dell'architettura

2010

In the 1990s, the second and third series of the journal activated with this column the resumption in a structured way of the reasoning on the centrality of Sicily within the Mediterranean basin, to probe its historical multicultural vocation also in the architectural field. The investigation, which began in the didactic field with design courses by Culotta, Panzarella, Sarro, Giorgianni and with degree theses on the theme of the Western Mosque in Palermo and Mazara del Vallo, will continue later in a more extensive form with the design workshops on residences for immigrants in the historic center of Palermo, the results of which are documented in the text by Culotta and Sciascia, “L'archit…

Myofibroblasts and increased angiogenesis contribute to periapical cystic injury containment and repair

2019

Background Myofibroblasts (MF) and angiogenesis are important factors in the development and expansion of cystic lesions, where these cells secrete growth factors and proteases, stimulating angiogenesis, matrix deposition and cell migration, affecting the growth of these periapicopathies. The present study aimed to evaluate the immunohistochemical expression of CD34 and α-SMA in radicular cysts (RC) and residual radicular cysts (RRC), with the purpose of contributing to a better understanding of the expansion and progression of these periapical lesions. Material and Methods The present study os a descriptive, quantitative and comparative analysis of positive CD34 and α-SMA immunohistochemic…

Extracellular calcium-sensing receptor mediates human bronchial epithelial wound repair

2010

The airway epithelium routinely undergoes damage that requires repair to restore epithelial barrier integrity. Cell migration followed by proliferation are necessary steps to achieve epithelial repair. Calcium-sensing receptor (CaSR) is implicated in cell migration and proliferation processes. Thus we hypothesized that CaSR mediates lung epithelial wound repair. We detected CaSR expression in human lung and in well-differentiated human bronchial epithelial cells (HBEC). To test the CaSR functionality, HBEC loaded with fura-2 were stimulated with extracellular Ca(2+) ([Ca(2+)](out)) which resulted in a concentration-dependent intracellular Ca(2+) ([Ca(2+)](i)) increase (potency approximately…
